A couple of things.
I like simple things. Like really really simple.
I know there is that initial excitement with this project, but we should all just stay calm and think for a second. After some careful planning, the execution part will be a breeze.
First, the other topic needs to go (I'm going to get rid of it). There's no reason to have multiple topics in different forum sections for a very simple thing like signing up. It's logical to have both Newbies and Mentors sign up on this same topic. No point in having others to use a different topic.
Second thing is the clock. It makes no sense. There should be steps you need to complete, after which the Newbie graduates. Having some kind of ticking time bomb that reminds the Newbie when we will get dumped is not a good idea.
Lastly referring to these new players as "noobs" looks bad. Some players will take it as an insult, and might not join. It most definitely doesn't give the warm fuzzy feeling of being welcomed. It could be that even the word "Newbie" is too much, and we should go with "Apprentice" or something.
Since this project is becoming "official", one option would of course be to let Council to some of the design process. They don't currently have anything big to work of, so this would be good I think.
