Water Golem | Ice Golem
Introducing a card... That is completely different in its regular and upgraded forms! I don't think a card like this had been done before, so I get bonus points for originality :P And I think this fits Water's polymorphic nature rather well.

NAME: Water Golem
ELEMENT: Water
COST: 4 :water
TYPE: Creature
ATK|HP: 3|6
ABILITY: Water Golem becomes Ice Golem
when targeted by Freeze.
NAME: Ice Golem
ELEMENT: Water
COST: 5 :water
TYPE: Creature
ATK|HP: 6|3
ABILITY: :water :water :Freeze the target creature
for 2 turns. Ice Golem gains -0/-1.

Ice Golem becomes Water Golem
after death.

IDEA: Bloodshadow
NOTES: - Water Golem will turn into Ice Golem when frozen by any method including Permafrost Shield, Congeal or even from an Ice Golem.
- The Water golem is evolved instead of becoming frozen so will not be frozen for any period from the effect.
- Both of the two transformation effects are passive.
- Yes, you can only have a total of 6 Ice/Water Golems in your deck, because they're still the same card even though the regular and upped versions are completely different.
- When Water Golem turns into Ice Golem, it is an evolution; when Ice Golem turns into Water Golem, it is a death. Therefore, the statuses (except Freeze) on Water Golem will carry over when Water Golem turns into Ice Golem; however, when Ice Golem is killed and turned back into Water Golem, the statuses on Ice Golem will not carry over.

It's been suggested before, but in dual card forms. As for the card, I don't really see a use for it changing around between upgraded and unupgraded (I think upgrading is there for a reason) and having a normal freeze ability. If I wanted reusable freeze capability at all, I would use Arctic Squids.

First, Squid is rare.

Second, Ice Golem practically has 9 HP, which is extremely hard to get rid of. Squids are weak and easily killable.

Third, Ice Golem has medium-high ATK. It can be used to attack as well.

As for the upgrade... For a deck with no upgrades, a single Freeze is required to get an Ice Golem, then that Ice Golem proceeds to convert other Water Golems into Ice Golems. For a fully upped deck, you can simply run six Ice Golems. This is how I want the difference between regular and upped to be, and personally I think it's about right.

I like this card a lot. Nice work, BS. However, why would a creature turn into a different version of itself when it dies or is frozen? Phoenix at least turns into a different creature when it dies. To me, these are two different cards. There needs to be an upgraded version of both of them.

To me, Water Golem and Ice Golem is the same creature, just having two different forms or phases; ice and water is both H2O. Water is a polymorphic element, having different aspects, and I think this card exemplifies that.

Too complex and overpowered imo.

I would drop this ability:
Soothe (:water): Heal the target creature for 3 HP.

Not all cards need to have multiple abilities. Water Golem already has one passive ability.

Also I don't like this:
Freeze (:water :water :water): Ice Golem gains -0/-1. Freeze the target creature for 3 turns.

It's almost identical to what Squid has.

I like the fact that Ice Golem turns back to Water Golem after death. I was planning on doing a card with same ability, only with skeletons and Death element. Funny part is that my card would have been called "Skeletal Golem". :) What my card wouldn't have had is this unupped -> upped transformation which is pretty cool.

Basically what I would do is build this card around this one ability and forget all the rest.

The ice golem would make the rare squids totally crap.
Maybe it would work if the freeze ability instantly kills it (and turns it into a water golem)?
And strip the healing.

Here's an idea worth considering. Make him start off as an Ice Golem, a 6|3 creature. Have his card read, "If Ice Golem is dies then the Ice Golem becomes a Water Golem."
Water Golem is a 3|6 creature, have his card read, "Sacrifice Water Golem and put a Flood card into play."

Is the healing that overpowered? If I just take away the healing ability, it would make this card balanced?

I will NOT make the freezing instantly kill the Ice Golem. That would destroy the entire point of an Ice Golem converting other Water Golems into Ice Golems.

All right, for now I'll take away Water Golem's healing ability, and change Ice Golem's freeze ability to :water :water that only freezes for two turns.


Updated. Water Golem is now a semi-vanilla creature with a passive ability, and Ice Golem only freezes for 2 turns.

Maybe the freeze ability should freeze itself for the same 2 turns as the target creature. Then squids would still be quite relevant.
