Zanz is working on turning the shards into a full series! o:

TL;DR version:
  • New shard on the In Development page (http://www.elementsthegame.com/development.html): Shard of Sacrifice (:death shard)
    • SoS will turn healing into damage and damage into healing for 5 turns(SoS is only usable on yourself)
    • Miracle will set your HP to 1 under the effects of SoS
  • Existing shards will be moved to different elements: SoG to :life, SoD to :light, and SoR to :time
  • There will be one shard for each element
  • All 12 shards will be rare and only available through donations and the Arena
  • All 12 shards will be usable unupped, but the upped versions will be easier/better to use
  • Each shard will likely favour one particular element using it (SoS drains all but :death quanta, SoR will give a further buff to :time creatures, etc.)
  • Shards will stack like Pillars, but there will be no way to clear multiple shards in a stack at once (for now)
  • :fire shard will inflict burns on your opponent (similar to a Poison effect) -- Purify will remove burns
  • :water shard will freeze a targeted permanent (effectively turning it off) for three turns
  • :aether shard will do 5 spell damage each turn
  • The new shards will be released in two instalments of 6 shards each over the next two major version updates

Maybe it's just my opinion, but shouldn't shards not be element-specific? This seems way UP to any deck that doesn't have death as main element or a (bleep!)ton of pillars/towers/pendulums/whatever! To scramble back to life with heals (Which would mean either dark, light, life, or arguably earth (I don't really see stone skin as a heal unless your LOADED with earth quanta)

Actually, Zanz is going to make ALL shards be somewhat element-specific. And this is still useful for non-death decks, as you get healed back up by your opponent's attackers.

I have a feeling this will need to be dropped to ~3 turns and have a cost of 3-5 to get this card balanced with the game.  As is, its basically a more powerful dim shield effect with the obvious negative side effect.

It doesn't need any cost, just lasting time should be reduced to 4
It drains all your quanta
Even though it can be played anytime it doesn't have any reason to be played in the beggining of the game, 'cause reducing your HP to 1 is crazy.

It doesn't drain :death quanta.  regardless, if you balance the quanta of your deck accordingly, losing a bit is no big deal.

This card is like a voodoo doll with several BB and GP that just happens to heal you.  Any stall can find a use for 30 turns of that.  Add PA and you are set.

I don't like this card. First, I think it is too powerful as it is now: you are basically giving the chance to every rush to play an awesome stall card too if needed. I mean, drain all quanta <-> Immolation / Nova / Whatever.

But apart from that, I don't like having a full set of cards, both upped and unupped, that can be used by every deck with similar effects. I think it takes a lot away from Elements, and from the uniqueness of different elements. I mean, Fire Shard gives DoT? It's kind of like giving poison to every element. Shard of Gratitude? Healing to every element. This? Dim Shield to every element. Water Shard? Mass PC to every element. I don't like the flattening of the metagame this will surely cause.  :(

I agree and I don't at the same time. The card is awesome (atleast in theory), and a new shard is always great. I'm just afraid of lacking creativity, shard-based decks and the elements can have almost any theme in a mono.

A (maybe bad) idea to fix this is adding a 1 (insert element here) cost to every shard, while keeping the 'real' cost to don't overpower it. Maybe a pain to code and visually do, but it's at least an idea that can be built on.

So, unless I'm mistaken, this grants me outright invulnerability for five turns, heals me for all the damage I would have received, and doesn't even cost any quanta (assuming I'm playing death).

This is broken as hell and then some!
