Overview
Shard of Void is a deceptively sneaky card, doing the opposite of Shard of Divinity. Instead of increasing the user's maximum health in one burst, it slowly lowers the opponent's maximum health over time.
General Use
Quick Facts:
- Shard of Void does no damage, it only lowers max hp
- Having a mark makes the shard 50% more effective
Shard of Void is a slow, but deadly card. Many people underestimate the measly 3 hp reduction per turn, but the hp reduction is PERMANENT. This means, that unless someone has Shard of Divinity or Stone Skin, the hp lost to Shard of Void cannot be gotten back. Even if someone has an entire field filled with healing cards, healing cannot go over maximum hp, making Shard of Void the perfect card to slowly bring down massive hp stalls, as well as counter healing decks. However, despite its hp reduction, Shard of Void cannot kill the opponent. If a deck brings nothing but Shards of Void, the opponent will just end up sitting at 1/1 hp. A card like Dagger, Poison, or Drain Life needs to be included in a void deck for the final blow.
Synergies
Shards of Void are quite precious to a deck that relies on them. Losing even one or two could mean losing a lot of speed and effectiveness. It is for this reason that Enchant Artifact is a great card to pair up with Shard of Void. The shards would all fit into one stack, and be completely protected with a single card.
Shard of Void is a stall breaking stall. To slowly reduce an opponent's health to nothingness, the user will have to be able to stall for a very long time. Shard of Sacrifice is already a card meant for stalling and living longer, so when pairing up Shard of Sacrifice with Shard of Void, the user will be able to live much longer, allowing the Shards of Void to fulfill their purpose.
Other Cards With Synergy
Any stall card or card that helps a player live longer has synergy with Shard of Void. Miracle, Shard of Divinity, Stone Skin, Shard of Gratitude are all healing cards that can increase the longevity of the user. Other stall cards such as Dimensional Shield and Sundial are also viable as stall options. Finally, if a user wants to stall and make use of a mark, Minor Vampire and Devourer can be used to both lock down the opponent, as well as heal.
Conclusion
Shard of Void is a card that is supposed to be used in, and against stall decks relying on healing. While these definitely do not fit into every deck, a deck that focuses on these can still be very potent at whittling down the opponent.
