This tutorial is a remake of the original one created by Anothebrother.

From Rags To Riches 2.0
How to get rich quick

This game is very grindy, and that's what drives newer players away (face it, it's the fact). If the grind can be focused, then less grind will be needed, thus more time spend enjoying the game.

Part 1: Starting up and your first deck
What we are going to do now is building the first deck, which will make you win the first quests in a blink.

Between all the starter decks, the Darkness one is sold much higher than the others. This offers the possibility to make a deck faster and easier starting with Darkness than starting with each respective element. That's why we are going to start with the Darkness starter deck.
Spoiler for Our starter deck:

What we will do now is modify this starter deck to make a decent one:
Spoiler for What you must buy and sell:
Discard and sell:
1 Black Dragons
4 Devourers
3 Parasites
1 Dusk Mantle
1 Steal
Buy and add to the deck:
8 Quantum Pillars
6 Graboids
Discard and sell:
1 Obsidian Pillar
2 Steals
1 Nightfall
3 Drain Life
4 Aether Pillar
1 Spark
1 Parallel Universe
1 Immortal
Buy and add to the deck:
2 Fog Shields
2 Mummies
2 Lycanthropes
2 Momentums
Discard and sell:
8 Obsidian Pillars
Buy and add to the deck:
2 Deflagrations
1 Sanctuary
Discard and sell:
3 Obsidian Pillars

You shall have this deck so far:

Q: Why did we make that deck?
A: As it was tested by Tiko and by Kev, Half Bloods (Level 4 or AI4) give more than 3 times more Electrum per hour than Elders (Level 3 or AI3). Luckily, there is a deck made almost entirely from the starter deck that can grind efficiently AI4. This deck is called The Half Blood Grabbow and it is the one that will make you win loads of electrum in your early games. You may notice that you are only 7 cards away to complete it! You will get the little  :electrum needed picking your quest rewards and playing against AI3.

This deck, as it was tested by ColorlessGreen, should win more than half of your games and give you a lot of electrum playing against AI4. You will easily complete the 500 score quest this way.

Part 2: To the False Gods! - Getting some serious Electrum
You have so far completed the 500 score quest, so you must have noticed 2 things: Level 5 (False Gods) has been unlocked, as an option to upgrade your cards when pressing the 'Quests' button.

False Gods (FGs) have 200HP, have 2x draw, 3x mark and are specially hard to beat. However, when you defeat them, they spin upgraded cards, which can be sold in the Bazaar for at least 1100 Electrum each!
I will recommend making a sequence of 2 decks in your first FG run shown in this part. You can however see other decks and their feedback in the Community Recommended Decks.

At this point you will be able to get pretty quickly about 1300 electrum. Use it to build Firecell.

Spoiler for detailed guide, by fyresentinel:
Firstly, an introduction. What is Firecell, and what is it meant to do? Firecell is a deck that is used to defeat certain False Gods slowly but reliably by using a lot of stalling tactics followed by a massive combo. It's two main charms are that it is very cheap to build (can be played with no upgrades or rare cards), and that it is very fun to deal 200 (or more) damage in one turn.

Who are the False Gods (FG)? They are the ultimate AI you will face in Elements. They have 200 HP, draw extra cards and gain extra quanta. All their cards are upgraded, which makes them very challenging but also means that if you win cards from them, that those cards will also be upgraded. Since upgraded cards sell for over 1200 Electrum, this can provide a solid income of thousands of electrum per hour.

So what is the big combo used to make false gods explode? Firstly, you have to play Aflatoxin on one of their creatures, preferably a small one (low HP, no more than 4). Aflatoxin does 2 damage a turn to the target, and when the target dies (doesn't have to be from the poison), it turns into a Malignant Cell (1 attack, 1 HP) on the False God's side of the board. Every single turn, the Malignant Cell divides and spawns a copy of itself, so first there is 1, then 2, then 4, 8, 16, 23 (at 23 the board is full, and no more creatures can be played on that side). So now there will be a lot of cells trying to kill you. They will be failing thanks to your Dimensional Shields. Eventually, you will have drawn all the cards that you need for the combo (Golden Hourglasses help draw cards. So here is the combo:

  • Aflatoxin - you've already used this to make cells. Discard the extra ones
  • Vulture - this critter gets +1/+1 every time something dies
  • Fractal - cast it on the vulture and you will fill your hand with Vultures (before casting Fractal, you should have no more than 5 cards in hand. Discard extra Hourglass if you need)
  • Play the 4+ Vultures from your hand that Fractal gave you
  • Rain of Fire (x2) - cast this and kill all those cells on the other side of the board. Then watch as your Vultures grow to 20+ attack each. You can discard one if there are only creatures with 3 or less (many many Cells)
  • Sky Blitz - this will double your Vultures' attack, meaning they will now hit for 40+ each
  • Chimera - does your opponent have a massive Bone Wall or some other annoying Shield? Cast Chimera and watch as you bypass the shields for more than 200 HP with a single creature. You can discard it or play it before the whole combo if the FG doesn't have an annoying shield, that will give you a more empty hand.
YOU HAVE TO PLAY ALL THOSE CARDS IN THE SAME TURN

Strategy
Stalling: you stall with Dimensional Shields, while drawing towards your combo with Hourglasses. Generally, only those gods with low levels of permanent control are viable for Firecell, and permanent control will always hit an Hourglass before a shield. Hopefully you can survive long enough to chain all your shields together, and often this means waiting until your health is in the 30-60 HP region. You can weather a few hits, but beware of creatures that deal poison damage as this will continue to hurt you after you play your shields. Generally you want to have another shield in your hand when you play one, or have an Hourglass on the field. If your  :time Quanta income is low, don't play additional Hourglasses beyond the first, hold onto them to play later or discard. The same goes for the second Aflatoxin if you are low on Death Quanta. Also, never press spacebar without checking that your shield won't expire!
Malignant cells: the earlier you play Aflatoxin the better, as it gives the cells more time to divide, and once the board is full your opponent cannot play any more creatures which is very useful
The kill: to win, you need the right cards in hand (or be able to guarantee that you draw them from Hourglasses that turn), you need to have your hand have as few cards as possible, to get the right number of Vultures. You carefully need to look at the number of creatures that you can kill (disregard those that are immortal or have more than 3 or 6 HP (depending on how many Rains of Fire you have). If there is a shield out, you may need to use Chimera.
Picking your targets and skips: this deck only works against about 10-13 of the 29 False Gods (depending on the exact cards used). Lots of gods will destroy your shields, and some, like Morning Glory, have no targets for you to Aflatoxin. Your best bet is to skip any gods that are impossible or very hard to beat. You lose 30 electrum, but that is much better than playing for 5 minutes with a high likelihood of losing anyway. Good targets are Destiny, Elidnis, Ferox, Fire Queen, Gemini, Incarnate, Miracle, Morte, Neptune, Paradox, Serket, Scorpio. Some of these are harder than others. Try all of them at least once and get a feel for what your deck can beat. Note that if you play on Kongregate, the white border hides the gods' names - you have to highlight or double-click the text in the upper right to read it.

The numbers
- quanta requirements: for the minimum combo, you will need to play 5 Vultures (including the initial one), 1 Fractal, 1 Rain of Fire, and 1 Sky Blitz, for a total cost 15  :death, 10  :aether, 7  :fire and  9  :air. You may also need to play a second Rain of Fire (14 Fire total), extra Vultures from Fractal and Chimera (7  :gravity). If you are approaching the end of the game and seem short on quanta, stop drawing from your Hourglasses, so you have more turns!! You will almost always be safe with the Shield chains by this point.

Tips and tricks
Discarding: at some point you need to look at your hand and decide if you will have enough room for Fractal'd Vultures. If you don't have the Quanta to drop your last Shields, Aflatoxin and Hourglasses, start keeping your hand full and discarding them every turn. Generally you only need 1 hourglass, 1 Aflatoxin and 3-5 shields. Removal: sometimes you may need to use a single Rain of Fire to clear out dangerous creatures (Physalia) or if you have no shields, even after you've used Aflatoxin. This is a big risk (especially if you only have one Aflatoxin! I strongly recommend running 2).
Drawing: with 3 hourglasses, you can begin your combo if you have 3 or fewer cards in your hand, as long as you have both Fractal and Vulture in your hand. This will let Fractal give you more Vultures.
2-turn kills: sometimes you need to risk getting off an early combo, e.g. if you run out of shields. This is only viable against gods that won't suddenly kill you next turn (they may be holding a lot of creatures) or that can remove all your Vultures, or that have Miracle. Keep the deck lists of the various gods handy to know what they are running.
Keep track of your shield usage: sometimes it's really important to know if this is your 5th or your 6th shield!
Tweak the deck: throw in Time/Death Pendulums if you feel need them, or take pillars out. Add Sanctuary or Sundial, or Purify as you see fit.
Aflatoxin: if you have the Death Quanta and an extra Aflatoxin, play it on a creature that will die in the first Rain of Fire. The second Rain will kill the Malignant Cell, for an extra +1 for your Vultures.
Against Incarnate and Morte your Chimera can easily get over 400 attack due to the Boneyards. Take screenies!

Upgrades
- Electrum Hourglasses are by far the most important upgrade, as they allow you to pay 1  :time to draw a card, instead of 2. Phase shields costing 5 can save your life, and allow you better Fractal timings. The extra +1 damage from an upgraded Vulture could potentially be useful, but this is unlikely (I have, however dealt 196 damage with no cards in my deck, upgraded Vulture would have won that). Once you have upgraded your Towers/Pendulums, your returning time for your Electrum will be very low. Rain of Fire is useful to upgrade since it only costs 5, but Fire is generally not your limiting factor.

Win %
- you should be winning 35-55% of your matches against non-skip gods (about 1/3 of them). Once you get the first upgrades (Hourglasses) this will look more like 45-75%. It takes me 4-5 minutes to beat a false god and 5 seconds for a skip, so you can easily do ~10-12 or so false gods an hour, with hopefully at least 5-6 victories. You tend to get a card every other win (although this can vary a lot). I've posted a number of stats on page 8 of this thread.

Remember: be careful of the order you play your cards in, check the amount of dying creatures and  :death quanta! Take your time towards the end of the game, if you make a mistake it's probably going to result in a loss

This deck will introduce you to your first FG wins and the pleasure of winning expensive upgraded cards.

After winning a couple of games against FGs and being able to upgrade 3 to 6 cards, build Limitless Speed

Light dragon + momentum + 2x Rage Elixir + 3 Parallel Universe + Sky Blitz:
[(12 + 1 + 2x6) x 2] x 4 = 25 x 2 x 4 = 50x4 = 200 UNSTOPPABLE ONE-TURN DAMAGE.
Play all those cards in that order, in the same turn!!!

This part will make you start winning some serious Electrum, which you will use from Part 3-b to start getting rare cards!

Part 3-a: Daily Fake Gods
Every day, when you spin the oracle, he tells you the next FG you will face. FG decks are well known, so are their counters. That's why the community has a Strategy Subforum where you can find an unupgraded counter for each FG. Finding a counter to your daily FG and facing it is easy and profittable, so don't miss your chance! (see the topics called "Oracle: ..."

Part 3-b: To the Arena! - Getting rare cards
Now that you have won some Electrum, you can make an upgraded / semi upgraded deck to start beating Bronze Arena!

There are several rareless upgraded bronze farmers in the forums. However, semi upgraded versions aren't shown. That means you will have to decide the amount of upgrades you want to have in your first Bronze farmer before you start massacring Bronze Arena.

The one I will recommend that have 2 rare cards at most are is FEVER - Farm Endless Very Easy Rares and The Bone Collector (choose the one you like most).
You can see other good decks aganst Bronze and Silver in the Community Recommended Decks and Decks Used Against Arena With Stats sections.

While you are on this phase, our objective is winning 5 games in a row to get Special Spins, and that way you get the rares. You will be aiming to get the needed rare cards to build your first serious FG grinder, which you will find in Part 4 and will act as your Electrum machine.

Part 4: Going FGs with Shards - Your Electrum Machine
After you got some rares from Bronze Arena, you can use them to use a sharded FG grinder, much more efficient than your previous one!

By this point you might not be able to get 30 upgraded cards for your first sharded FG grinder. Don't worry, just keep playing with your current one until you get -almost- the deck fully upgraded. The deck you will build now will give you enough Electrum for the rest of your EtG life. This decks have a higher win rate and their games are much faster than your previous FG grinder.

There are 3 sharded and upgraded decks I will recommend for grinding FGs: Voodoo Bravery, Poison Dial and The Brave Malignant Ball That Could (you will find how to use them in their respective threads).
You will find other good upgraded decks against FGs in the Community Recommended Decks

Part 5-a: What to do with your Electrum: Jump to Platinum
Platinum Arena is the current hardest PvE level in the game. As people is constantly submitting decks, you will find a great variety of decks showing up. There is no direct counter to Platinum as there are for FGs, because as soon a 'counter' is made, a lot of people make an Arena counter to the 'counter'. You can, however, see the Community Recommended Decks and Decks Used Against Arena With Stats against Platinum Arena.

Part 5-b: What to do with your Electrum: Competitive PvP
The deck (or decks!) you built in part 4 are a constant Electrum supplier, but at this point you didn't even start to feel the game.

What will make you really get into the game is Competitive PvP

There are many events to join, you just need to pick one. I'll list some of them here:
PvP Tournament: Rule here.
Short explanation: A single elimination tournament hold weekly, using fully unupped deck. A special tournament held once every month allows as many upped cards as you can afford in your deck. Each tourney have a specific deckbuilding rule you must follow.
PvP League: Rule here.
Short explanation: A free-for-all battle which everyone can join. This event last three months. It's divided into two league: BL for fully unupped deck, CL for upgraded deck.
War: Last rule here.
Short explanation: A colossal team PvP event, consisted of 12 teams, one from each element. This event is held twice a year. These teams will fight in several rounds till only one remains.
Trials: Last rule here.
Short explanation: An event in which participants are selected till only 12 are remaining, one from each element. These participants will have a right to challenge the current Master to be entitled the Master of their element.
Duels: Rule here.
Short explanation: An unofficial PvP system designed to match 2 players with their preferred rule. You can make your own rule, your own Best Of system, and everything.
Other PvP Events: rule in their respective subforums.
Short Explanation: These are the events with unique ruling and signing up system. If you win, you'll get a nice award under your avatar. Also, you'll be recognized as a badass.

Part 5-c: What to do with your Electrum: Become an Arena Master
Making original decks people can play against in the Arena makes you well known, and those people are who make the arena a rich place to play. Here are some of the people who make records of their decks and how they went.

I would recommend changing the links that have the text "Here" to something more meaningful. Check out the W3 recommendations on this.

Is farming FG with Firecell and LS really the best choice to prepare for farming arena for shards? I would like to hear more on this. I know they're your creations, so there may be some bias?

BMB is quite a tricky deck for newer players, I feel they really should start with VDB or PDials. It may be worth mentioning this. I would be interested to hear your thoughts on this.

I /really/ like how you included information on forum events. It really is a big part of enjoying this game to the fullest.

Overall, this is a massive improvement on previous rags-to-riches tutorials. It brings things up to date, which was needed. Thank you.

I would recommend changing the links that have the text "Here" to something more meaningful. Check out the W3 recommendations on this.
Fixed. I didn't change the ones quoted though. Thanks!

Is farming FG with Firecell and LS really the best choice to prepare for farming arena for shards? I would like to hear more on this. I know they're your creations, so there may be some bias?
I put Firecell because it has a really good feedback and got an overall better result than Flay' EM and the Ghostal, which haven't been commented in ages and haven't seen people recommending them for a long time.
I suggested LS because of the feedback and because it has -slightly- better stats than the 6-upps RoL-Hope, not even mentioning that the recommended RoL-Hope uses 3 upgrades.

BMB is quite a tricky deck for newer players, I feel they really should start with VDB or PDials. It may be worth mentioning this. I would be interested to hear your thoughts on this.
By this point, the player has already played a considerable amount of games in the Arena, it wouldn't take him more games than the normal amount of games it takes to get used to that deck. I stated that the explanations about how to use the decks is explained in each thread.

I /really/ like how you included information on forum events. It really is a big part of enjoying this game to the fullest.

Overall, this is a massive improvement on previous rags-to-riches tutorials. It brings things up to date, which was needed. Thank you.
Credits to Absol, and thank you  :)

Awesome, I'll leave this in General for another day or so for comments. I then recommend moving it to the Tutorials section if there are no objections.

What about frOTKal OTK?
It doesn't have as much feedback as Firecell.

Changed the HB farmer to HBGB, as its UEI is much higher.

Probably had enough time for comment now. Any objections to moving it to the Tutorials section?

The second most updated tutorial yet. It's pleasant to read and structured. New player will be easily convinced by it and should have no problem whatsover to get tons of Electrum. I just recommended this to my cousin who started to play EtG a week ago. He's been looking for a FG grinder deck that doesn't need any ups and rares, and Firecell grabbed his attentin.

Thanks again for the wonderful tutorial! Definitely worth to try.

From my experience, firecell is better than the 6-ups limitless. The latter only got good with a bunch more upgrades (towers, etc)

I'm pretty sure you just had bad luck. LS is better than firecell.
By the way, great tutorial Chapuz, you definately know how to compress a lot of information in one post, unlike me xD.
Good work, keep going :D
