This topic will include brainstorming regarding the strengths of each opposing element, duos for us to consider, event card discussion, deckbuilding statistics and so on into infinity. I'll edit this OP later on with a summary of each of our feeble enemies.

Duos we can make with our vault, in order of power:

Aether/Death

Classic BoneBolt

Deck import code : [Select]
52o 52o 52o 52o 52o 52o 52q 52q 52r 52r 52r 52r 61q 61q 61q 61q 61q 61q 61v 61v 63a 63a 63a 63a 63a 63a 63a 63a 63a 63a 8pk

The most consistent rush-stopper, as Poison isn't stopped by any Shields, which are more common than Purify. Example (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,24724.0.html).

Mummytal BoneBolt

Deck import code : [Select]
52o 52o 52o 52o 52q 52q 52r 52r 52r 52r 52t 52t 61q 61q 61q 61q 61q 61q 622 622 63a 63a 63a 63a 63a 63a 63a 63a 63a 63a 8pk

If we expect a rush with Purify and no Shields, this has a ton of relatively fast damage to put out. Extremely customisable. Example (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,26450.0.html).

Bone Dragon Fractal
Hover over cards for details, click for permalink
Deck import code : [Select]
52h 52h 52q 52q 52q 52r 52r 52r 52r 61q 61q 61q 61q 61q 61q 622 622 63a 63a 63a 63a 63a 63a 63a 63a 63a 63a 63a 63a 63a 8pk

Just simply an incredible deck. It stops rushes, and it crushes most stalls. Also extremely customisable, and it's now even easier to OTK thanks to being able to upgrade to Ivory Dragons/upped Arsenic/Deadly Poisons. Like so (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,27522).

PU Arses
Hover over cards for details, click for permalink
Deck import code : [Select]
52q 52q 52q 52q 52r 52r 52r 52r 61q 61q 61q 61q 61q 61q 61r 61r 61r 63a 63a 63a 63a 63a 63a 63a 63a 63a 63a 7n2 7n2 7n2 8pk

Works even better with Novas and Sundials for extra stalling. This will bring down many domination decks, since their CC will be meh, and their survivability eventually crumbles before the continuous Poison. Like so (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,27281.0.html).

All of these can pack Plagues to combat decks like Fractix, or Dims for extra stalling since the core build is just 2-4 BW's, 4-6 Lightnings and 10-14 pends. Yes, it can even work against elements like Fire and Darkness because of the many permanents. Like so (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,26089.0.html).

Aether/Fire:

Fractix
Hover over cards for details, click for permalink
Deck import code : [Select]
5f6 5f6 5f6 61t 61t 61t 622 622 622 622 63a 63a 63a 63a 63a 63a 63a 63a 63a 63a 63a 63a 63a 63a 7ds 7ds 7ds 7ds 7ds 7ds 8po

Ah, Fractix, my favourite deck. Absolutely destroys all stalls as long as it has enough Explosions, and can demolish rushes too thanks to the CC and defence available in Aether and Fire. Rain of Fire, Rage Potion, Fire Bolt, Lightning, Dim Shield.. they all help this deck power through any threat. Its main weakness is denial, which can be solved with more pends and upping some of them. Like so (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,28321.0.html).

PU Phoenix
Hover over cards for details, click for permalink
Deck import code : [Select]
5f6 5f6 5fc 5fc 5fc 5fc 5fc 5fc 61r 61r 61r 61r 61r 61r 61t 61t 63a 63a 63a 63a 63a 63a 63a 63a 63a 63a 63a 63a 63a 63a 8po

A stallbreaker or dominator that has been nerfed due to Ashes lowered HP. Slightly obsolete now that anyone can use Fractix. Example (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,27074.0.html).

Future decks will be anything we can PU from Fire, really, and Dims+Fire Bolt. The latter isn't very good.

To be continued.

Statistical attempt to predict possible decks of opponents that can be used against team :aether. This includes all duels :in first 4 rounds :aether did in war#3. and decks that won against :aether until the very end. My reasoning is that first 4 gives a general idea about what they bring against aether rather blindly since they dont know :aether 's vault very much. And all loses gives an idea about what kinds of deck compositions :aether was weak against. After this post, I have some remarks about the decktypes we lost often. So here we go

A few notes about decks used against :aether, more wil come later.

* :fire used nova-graboid decks 4 out of  7 wins against :aether. The rest 3 were immo phoenix, golem and poison decks.  Very high chances to face graboid decks from team fire.

* :entropy used graboid decks in their 4 out of 5 wins against :aether, much like how :fire did. And the fifth one was poison deck. Seems like :aether is very vulnerable against graboid decks.

* :underworld. It occurs to me when something rainbowish pops up, :aether is significantly at a disadvantage. Perhaps quanta denial or reverse times needed ?

* :aether lost to :fire & :entropy when they brought poison decks.  Also each time :aether lost to :death, it was because there wasnt purify card in :aether ‘s deck. Purifies needed against various teams.  :death decked :aether out twice with ordinary ss :earth decks.

* :earth once won against :aether with graboid deck and once with deckout deck. For the first time, :aether once won against a graboid deck was when there was a deckout involved.

* Team :time just kept losing against :aether. They lost even when they came with a graboid deck but without novas. It seems like its the speed combination of nova & graboid makes :aether vulnerable, not graboids alone.

* Team :darkness just kept beating up :aether with 2 vampire decks and 2 stall decks. But two of the matches were 2-1. And in both of them :aether had graboid decks. Perhaps same could be tried.

* :water once lost with a fair enough graboid deck against hig's fractix. But fractix didn't work much against fire nor entropy. Water probably doesn't have the juice to support a good graboid deck.

* Don't have a good statistical data against :light. They might use some earth & light stall tho, which team :earth proved to be working.

* Against :life , it looks like :aether got RNG'd & stalled when we lost.

* :gravity not much to mention with the given data.

An attempt to list some possible duo decks with every element that i thought of. Also including some rainbowish sutff. Just note them as ideas. Just a note though; i intentionally avoided using dimensional shields in some of the decks just to counter the other teams possible expectations from :aether and bring some PC. I also have some extra emphasis on PU since it enables flexibility during gameplay by PU'ing opponents creatures.

I'm not quite sure how you handled vault planning before, so it would be nice if you tell us about it. But i can drop my 2c.

Stating the obvious, we have 377 cards. On first round we are going to have 8 decks so at least 240 of those cards are going to be solid decks, leaving 137 cards behind. Now we can build 4 more decks out of it or we can make 1 or 2 very solid backup decks and plan rest of the (87 or 57) cards to be as generic as possible to be used with our future loot. So how can we do that ? The answer is tied to what cards :aether element has that goes well with random loot and what we can predict about the loot. The matchups are random so its hard to predict about to loot but we can guess some by checking what the other elements use as their popular cards.

Answering what :aether has is easy;
1- Fractal: We can fractal the loot by loading the vault with some backup fractals (and perhaps some creatures) and waiting for some of the fractal-able loot to come. What are worth fractaling without needing a 3rd element ?

Deck import code : [Select]
52j 52t 55l 5bu 5c0 5c8 5f1 5fc 5i6 5ie 5ll 5ok 5um 5ut 8po
Among those creatures, some have high chances for us to face. So if we happen to loot those, we can load a deck with aether pendulums + fractals + looted creature + looted creature's mark and make a proper deck out of it.

2- Parallel Universe: Opposite of fractal, PU is worth only using on big bad creatures, mostly dragons. So we can blindly load the vault with some packs of PU and wait for some big creature loot to make a deck using aether pendulums + PU + pack of a big creature + creature's mark

3- Aether pendulum: Loads of them. A must in order to make use of the loot.

If the first 8 decks of round one also include these cards, we can also just reuse them to make different decks with the loot. But the way i see it, more pendulums over pillars in the vault is a good idea at least.

War#3  :aether members know this better but according to me highly expected loot could be:
1- Fire cards: I noticed that fire duo decks are very popular among all teams. So we can expect to have some handsome fire loot in various rounds. The possible loot could be; cremation (especially from elements that has cheap creatures to make it viable), deflagration, phoenix and perhaps lava golems from both team :fire and team :earth. So if we have some fire cards to support the fire loot, we could make more of a solid deck out of it.

2- Graboid deck loot Everybody loves graboid decks. And everybody can make graboid decks with nova. So we could have graboids, nova, some more deflags, fog shields etc.

3- Animate weapon: Maybe its just me, but i suspect teams will use this card more often thanks to new rule making it free.

4- Poisons, Stall cards and fast creature swarming decks

In short, we could make like 10 decks, with some of them using fractals & PU, and also backup even more fractal & PU to make new decks with the loot. And make some flexible decks that could forgive additions from loot while remaining decent. Packing some extra nova could be nice idea to be able to make working abomination dekcs out of multiple element loot that are cheap to cast, nova can also support stuff like purify & deflag in case we face teams that we need them. Maybe some extra dimensional shields, lightnings, phase spiders to populate the decks.

Some non-aether utility cards that can find a room to make a correct deck with proper loot. Some of them needs multiple to work (nova, graboid). I think nova is a good patchup card to make a working deck in case the loot is just not enough to make a duo (from my UW experience). And some of them could be 5th or 6th card if we make a proper loot (EQ)

Basically how we did vault last time was:

1. Deck Brainstorm.
2. Identify Powerdecks.
3. Build all decks with a large amount of overlap to minimize how much we need in vault.
4. Max out important Aether cards.
5. Fill pends/pillars
6. Random utility/could be useful cards.

* I guess we could use more non-pilllar non-pendulum cards when it comes to sideboard, since we can convert them anyway.
* When planning the vault, I think we should check beforehand how active our team members will be when it comes to duels. If we sub a lot, no loot for us hence if we had loaded the vault with cards which are sensitive to looting (namely fractal / PU), we might have troubles. Or if we know subing is not going to happen much, we can plan the vault expecting loots from every match we win.
* It would be more flexible if aether cards in our duo decks could be combined into one predictible but decent mono aether deck just in case. I'm talking about something like using phase spiders on one deck, dimensional shields on another, and damning other element cards to conversion as an example. This would allow us to utilize more duo decks without much fear. The other element cards could also wait for proper loot to power them up or we could have some backup nova in our vault to help utilizing the leftovers. If we overuse an aether card in our starting decks, we might find ourselves unable to make a working deck out of them on later rounds, like having 30 dimensional shields but no damage resource cards.

The way aether works fundamentally is based along a core of cards.

So, regardless of what we plan on doing with the rest, we need the core of 24 Lightning 24 PU 24 Dim Shield 24 Fractal to last long.

The rest is depending on what decks we want to start out with, but as long as we can keep at least some of the cards in the core intact we can build a deck with almost anything we salvage.

The almost common thing about our losses we're we lost to graboids deck.  Of course dim shield is really predictable, most team will think it's so predictable we won't use it trying to mindgate us and rush with grabs deck.  They will of course pack 2-3 deflags in case we actually do use phase Shields.  I would suggest having a couple of decks packing wings and a few Dim shields to avoid those high damage.  A high defensive deck with a couple of dragons and lightning should hold against different grab rush.  And graboids rush are still high on the list of most pvp'ers so expect 1-3 of those per team.

Bonebolt is a great deck (I use it once in a while in beginner's league!) but it will be expected in war, so we will likely see even more grabs deck ( for the borrowed part) and maybe a couple of decks with purifies... so we must think if it's worth keeping or not.

Main danger is from fire shield/thorn shield, momentum/poison, spells and deck out due to healing or excessive defense. Although tower destruction can also be a danger, throwing one of the EAs on pillars vs earth should mitigate most of that danger.
