Voting: Revive the Archive

Thanks again to EmeraldTiger, OldTrees, and various other active card creators in the community for bringing up this concept. :)

Please vote for the best redesigned cards when compared to their archived counterparts - you can find links to the original card concepts in the new card threads. Participants were allowed to choose one of their own ideas (or another idea if they had permission) that was found in either the Crucible or Forge archives, and redesign the card for a second chance back into the Crucible. You have 3 votes, and you may change your votes at any time.

NOTICE: Please also READ this thread here regarding Vote advertisements.
http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,16251.0.html

Awards will be granted to the three top participants:

1st place:

  • Specialized Icon ()
  • Automatic submission back into the Crucible

2nd place:

Vote #10, its a fun light card that fits with the elements, isnt OP and has a cool effect. and it has new and better art than the original :P

Voted 2, 10, 14.

As of now, Flooding/Inundation is the only card that targets rows. It'd be interesting to see more cards that mess around with that. More strategy to be involved in creature swelling.

2: Definitely fun if you can creature spam without the use of Malignant Cells. (It doesn't work on Cells) I mean, who wouldn't want to play with a field of mutants!?
10: Since there's no cure for poison and all the ones in the Crucible are being beaten at voting, may as well have a way of retrieving poisoned creatures. Sort of.
14: Again, targeting rows. Good counter against :fire. Works against and for :death. Definitely not OP, and works in the middle of that Flooding. (;

Vote for #2 or risk mutation, which can be hazardous to your health!
...I mean it.

I have to say that the showing for this has been pretty poor in general, which is a shame. There are only maybe two or three cards here that I would consider worthy of passing beyond the Crucible.

Mind voting for or pointing out which ones those are?

Voted 8,9,16

8: I like the alternating ability creature. This leads to increased versatility in game mechanics without sacrificing much simplicity.

9: I like this variable quanta generating creature. It also has nice art. This would open the doors to a lot of new quanta distributions which are the key component to deck possibilities.

16: I think this is a decent card and my playtesting attempt to break it of it did not show it to be gamebreakingly OP. Denial cards always invoke irrational dislike however, if we look past this irrationality we can see that Denial cards like Lightning Bolt[Creature Denial] are not evil and can be balanced.

Note however I did not vote for 1. I am the author of the #1 remake and did my best to improve upon the old card. I think I made it a good balanced quality card. However with only 3 votes I was forced to concede that there were remakes better than mine. Please vote for 8,9 and 16 before you vote for 1.

Random interest though....

It says 3rd place is automatic resubmission to the Crucible right?

That doesn't mean we can't still go through the manual process of resubmission though?

It doesn't make sense to me that you would deny re-entries just because they didn't win the competition, especially if the new version is well received.

Actually Eva, you can still resubmit these revised cards to the Crucible manually (via the 'Link Crucible Candidates' thread), but only after the competition is done. It's only that the top 3 card authors don't have to do that simple process, whereas everyone else will be required to (should they want to resubmit a revised archive idea). ;)

So don't worry. I won't be denying any cards.  ;D

So technically, 3rd place is the "you tried" label.
That doesn't sound very nice..

On the contrary - being the top 3 shows that your idea was appreciated and well-liked, meaning that when it comes down to the Crucible polls, the 3rd place vote has a much higher chance at actually succeeding and going further into the voting system (not that the other ones that didn't place won't be successful).

...am I digging myself a hole here? All I'm trying to say is that everyone who participated should be greatly applauded for their efforts. It's not easy trying to rework an old concept to bring it back to life (and get people to start talking about it again). ^^;

Haha, I understand what you're saying. I was just being blunt, yet not in a totally serious way. But it would be a nice addition to the prizes if the winners (all 3) got a kick-start vote or two upon re-entering the Crucible. That way, people won't see the 3rd place the way I mentioned above. Just a thought~
