mind gate and nightmare https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=11309.msg139079#msg139079

I played with mind gate against a half-blood  :darkness/ :entropy

His hand is empty, i have played an archangel on the field. I have plenty of prismatic pillar.
Step 0 : My turn
Step 1 : Use mindgate draw Nightmare !
Step 2 : Use nightmare on my archangel
Step 3 : Opponent's turn : he can't play with 8 archangels in hand and even don't draw.
Next step : go back to step 0

This is a really powerful use of nightmare against his owner.

I am just waiting for a spell/effect to put one of your card on top of your opponent deck.

thus achieveth a complete hand lock
unfortunately this combo only works if your opponent has a nightmare on top of his deck with a useless hand (so to speak) and you with a mindgate and a creature they cant cast

No, it is worst, because even if he has other cards in hand, and even if a can cast the creature, he is locked.
As you can fill his hand each turn, and he will only be able to cast the remaining cards and the creatures you give to him.
So it happens as soon your opponent has a nightmare on top of his deck, there is a creature in play and you have a mindgate
and enough quanta to use the gate and nightmare.

Of course if he can cast the big dragons you give to him each turn, it could be a nice lock for your opponent, but it's still a lock.

Hrm... interesting. Sounds like it would be very uncommon in legitimate PvP or PvE, but whenever it happens it would be utterly EPIC.

This is one of the situations that are highly unlikely, but hilarious if it really happened.

You fill his hand with 8 archangels. His turn. He can't do anything so end turn. But why doesn't he discard card as you can only hold 7?

He discards -> you activate Mindgate -> play Nightmare -> opponent has 8 cards again.

What if your opponent doesn't have nightmare, Or it's not on the top of their deck. Even if they had a 30 card deck, which they don't there is only a 20% chance of doing this successfully. You also need to draw mindgate yourself and could then end up getting a completely useless card for yourself. This seems like a very situational strategy.

Oh I see. Since he has 8 cards he can't draw :P. The amount of quanta you need to pull this off is a lot though and you'd need to clean out the field.

Not really. All it takes is 2 aether and 2 darkness per turn. And yes its situational as was mentioned earlier, but the point is that if you're using a mindgate deck and happen to run into someone who has nightmare you can entirely lock them down :P.
