Overview
An extremely cheap and flexible card, short sword, and it's upgraded form, long sword, are often overlooked when building a deck. The use of a single quanta of any element means swords can fit snuggly and easily into any mono or duo deck.
General Use
Quick Facts:
- Extremely cheap cost of 1 quanta of any element
- Long Sword has one of the best damage to quanta ratios in the game
Swords often find themselves in competition with Dagger as the go-to reliable cheap weapon. Swords cost 1 quanta, while a Dagger is free, but Swords also provide more damage. If one is going with a mark of either death or darkness however, Dagger would probably be the better choice. Besides that, the sword is a key component in mono decks whose own element's weapon is not the preferred one for quick powerful damage, such as life's Druidic Staff or time's Eternity. One who is looking for pure, fast, rushy damage, and has no need for the gimmicks the other weapons provide would easily pick the long sword as the weapon of choice.
Synergies
If one is perhaps using a rainbow or other quanta tight deck, the use of Nova can help alleviate quanta shortages, as well as providing the quanta needed to play Short Sword. Additionally, with a quick burst of 1 of each element, it is very likely that Short Sword can be played for quick damage while not disturbing the pace of a deck at all.
Flying Weapon, when upgraded, costs exactly the same as Long Sword, making it a very viable combo. For a mere 2 :rainbow, one can get a 6|2 creature on the field, a much more efficient attacker than a Horned Frog. If one wants to concentrate on a minimal quanta flying sword deck, the swords and Flying Weapon should be upgraded to allow for more damage and smoothness, and both of these are alleviated with Nova.
Other Cards With Synergy
Sword is an Other card, so it is meant to be able to put into many decks. A Shrieker rush deck might make use of it, as well as a mono life deck. Water's Trident can't compare to the speed of a Long Sword, and Long Sword outstrips nearly every single elemental weapon in terms of damage/cost ratio.
Conclusion
In conclusion, while Short sword is certainly an easily overlooked card, one should take the time and pause to think if one or two of these will serve as good additions in their deck.
