Upcoming changes to "Card Ideas" section https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=5025.msg50241#msg50241

"Card Ideas" section is going to be redone very soon. This is a project that has been going on for months but has been pushed aside because of technical issues with other things. Fortunately I now had some time to work on this.

I made a simple "Approved Card Ideas" template here: http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,5024.new.html#new (subject to change)

What this means is that members can post card ideas just like they have been doing so far, but now the best ideas will be collected in this card idea compilation thread.

Requirements for a card idea to be approved:

- good quality image
- unique idea
etc.

More details about the requirements will be posted later.

We are also going to have a "Card Idea Hall of Fame" which has all the best (most voted on) ideas from competitions and "Approved Card Ideas" section.

I think these changes will make the card idea section less messy. Discuss.

I think it'll fail. Sry.

There was experience and logic behind the detail I offered and I don't think you have captured any of that in this implementation.

I've had to edit this post twice cause I really didn't want to put it down but what I see here is flawed and ready to be ruined by the inexperienced and abusive.

I'm really excited for this.  It's a great idea, and hopefully it will be worth the amount of time and effort involved.

Excited for this idea, but a tad annoyed that I have to fight with pixlr every time I have an idea.

First of all if you think that this is some kind of modified version of your idea, you are wrong. I've talked about this with Lanidrak months ago. Secondly this system is absolutely nothing like your idea.

Like I've explained to you, we cannot have some kind of group of "elite" players who decide which card ideas are good and which are bad. All community members should have a say in this, even the dumb ones (not that I think anyone here is dumb). Best thing we can do is to educate people and explain to them what they are voting for, so that we can hopefully avoid a situation where people vote for the coolest picture.

This system is just the first step. We will probably have something more advanced later, but I'm telling you once more, a situation where we take away the voting rights from all the "non-elite" members, won't happen.

Here's the solution: http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,4745.0.html

Hopefully Planplan can finish that project and let us use it, because if he does, anyone (even the dumbest person on this forum) can design a card in just a couple of minutes.

It's going to be awesome.

I feel sad that you have chosen to ignore my advice.

I don't see the point of having a community of experienced players when we ignore their value for those of the inexperienced mass.

If the juniors of a school are allowed to make deciding votes on the activity of the whole, why have elders or seniors? their experience and knowledge is going to be mute under the weight of popularity and ignorance.

PuppyChow, Jmizzle7 their vote is now worth as little as new Joe who signed up 10 minutes ago with his new starter deck.

That's harsh on the new people that start up. If you had a gamebreaking idea that would benefit the entire Elements community, you'd be a bit cheesed off if you couldn't put it forward in discussion because you were a "newb"

And we aren't ignoring you, we've acknowledged your opinions, but do not believe they reflect the reality of the concept.

There was never a statement that an idea could not be posted. Just that the accepting community should be those who know what they are talking about, not every joe random with an opinion and no experience.

Looking through the current card ideas section more than a third of the ideas are copied from other games and at least half are not thought out in any way to make them even suitable for gameplay. If we have a community of inexperienced swinging the acceptance of such ideas we will just have a gathering of unusable waste.

Edit Add post - In the information I sent to ScaredGirl there where allowances for those who had ideas but not a level of experience to show that what they offered was a suitably good idea. This was a Sponsorship by a full member of the forum who vouched for the idea to be accepted.

Yep. Last thing we need is a reputation of being a bunch of elitists. That's not what a gaming community should be about.

Like Hobnob5000 said, I didn't ignore your advice. I read it, and decided we are not going to go with that.

You are actually the 3rd person suggesting a similar system where a small group of people decide which ideas are good and which are bad, while the rest of the community are ignored. I've turned all these ideas down because it's against my forum philosophy.

Yes, exactly. Everyone gets one vote, just like in real life when you vote for a president or something. Or do you think people who follow politics should get a second vote, and people who work in politics should get 10 votes?

Veteran players can affect the vote by participating on the discussions. If they are respected members of the community, their word might make some people change their vote.

Actually when you vote in 90% of democratic governments in this world you vote for a senate, a group of people who are offered forward by the elite of society for you to choose from and after they have been selected those senators have all the power over Decisions. These senators also are the persons that make the rules on how you are allowed to vote and how your vote will affect an outcome in the government. The schoolchild and farmer are both part of society but their vote doesn't mean squat when it comes to the point of raising taxes or deciding on where the budget gets spent this year and it would be irresponsible to give them that ability as they know not what the consequences are if it is mismanaged.

According to Wiki, you live under a Semi-presidential Republic. How many times have you made descisions on where your tax money is going?

i see what both SG and Kael Hate are saying. i don't think it should be limited to a very small group, and i don't think a person so new to the game should have so much weight. i personally, a 14 year player of MtG, still had to adjust to the games mechanics before understanding why all the cards were designed the way they were. i know if i just popped into the forums after playing the game for a few hours and suggested a card, it would probably have been pretty ridiculous.  my solution would be to build something like the karma system. you must have X posts to do Y.

Would you care to see my proposition being that I have had years of experience in card design teams and for my profession am a Quality Assurance Engineer?

Do you have objection ScaredGirl if I show them what I sent to you? or will it simply be a matter of the fact that it is against your philosophy so it isn't going to happen?
