I figured I'd point this out. Hopefully it can help people decide who to vote for, especially if they are interested in forum activity and the "diversity" that was mentioned previously. If you look at a user's stats, you can see how much time they spend online, how many posts they make in a section, and the percentage of a section that is their posts. The second and third parts only show the top ten for that user. For instance, let's look at Scaredgirl's stats:

http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?action=profile;area=statistics;u=1

I'll skip explaining the general stats and posting activity by time sections... they should be self explanatory. The most popular boards by posts section is simple also; it just shows the top ten boards you've posted in. The only confusing thing about it is the "pie charts." They aren't percentage pie charts. Basically, if you have the most posts in a board, your chart for that board is shown as full (I'm pretty sure that's how it works anyway). Take a look at the Forum News and Announcements board stat from SG's stats page. The pie chart is completely full, meaning she has the most posts in that section.  Lastly, and what I find the most interesting, is the most popular boards by activity section. This compares a user's activity in a board with everyone else on the forum. SG currently has 100% of the activity in the "Elements Council"  board because she is the only person to have posted there. She has made exactly 50% of the posts in the deck archive board.

If you aren't sure how to find a person's stat page, just go to their profile, hover over the "profile info" tab, then click "show stats." Hopefully this will help everyone see exactly how a candidate spends their time on the forum, and what sections/topics they care about the most.

Oh shoot, nobody's gonna read this 2nd page comment... but it's worth a try.

So, first of all, how exactly should a council member be?

Be objective!
He'd have to know a little about people and how they'd like to be on the Forums. Sure, that opinion might be different from his opinion, but that is irrelevant. After all, he's not in that position because he's coll like that, he's there because a majority of people thought he could represent them well. Because this is what the council is after all. A group of people representing the masses, making the best decisions for the community. Not a group of gangsters ruling over a neighborhood.

i second this...
I don't agree with this "be objective" thing. The way council should work is that people vote for candidates that they feel would make the best decisions. Elected council members would then make those decisions based on how they think it should be done. I don't think council members should be mindless drones who do what people in chat tell them to.

The thing is that general public will always have opinions on every single detail that goes on around here, but they very rarely understand the issue and all the small details that go with it. With the Council, we have people who do understand the issues because they are fully informed about all the details. They are better equipped to make those hard decisions then someone who joined the forums 2 weeks ago.

What I'm trying to say is that council members do not, and should not, ask for some kind of "popular opinion" before making a decision. Just do what you think is right.
I never said that. I just said that, when tinkering what decision to take, the council should first think about the community, not about himself. He should make the decision that would be best for the public, not the decision that the public would take. It's a difference. As you say it, crowds don't know everything that happens, so the decision they'd take would be very often worse for them than the decision informed people take.

Not a group of gangsters ruling over a neighborhood

I'm a bit late in writing my "pick/vote for me" post but I've been a bit busy with college life (parties, classes, and homework).

So why pick me? I am usually very active in chat, game, and forums. I won't and can't say always active because life does come up sometimes and that take priority. I try my best to be as active as possible and most players know that this is true since I am usually on for more than 6 hours a day when I am free. Though that was when I was in the US, now I am in Europe so there is a 6 hour time difference, meaning that my hours of avaliability have changed.

I won't claim that I came up with the idea of the council since it was more like a communal thing that came up in chat but I would like to think I was one of the "founders" of it. I get to know everyone that comes on chat (if you only show up on chat once in a while I might not have been able to talk/get to know you). That being said I have a large knowledge base on how is generally active, and able to fulfill roles that will be open. Scaredgirl knows this as I have messaged her a few times in the past about Forum positions and who I recommend that could fill the position and do a good job.

Done riteing my post! @ kevkev - this is a in chat joke

Communal thing, huh? :)

Actually what happened was that I had been planning this council/senate thing in my head for months, right after I first started cracking under pressure of too much work. In chat we talked about something related to this, probably forum workload or something. I then revealed this council idea, we talked about it, everyone got excited, and I started a topic about it.

What I'm trying to say is that I wouldn't give any "founder" title to people who happened to be in chat at that specific time. :) What you did do though is you participated in the brainstorming session of that original council topic which will earn you the title of "contributor". :)

It's not a big deal but I want to give out all the facts because this is an important vote.

Wow 3 pages already!!!!

Well I'm a 26 year old PhD student in chemical engineering that thinks elements is pretty much the most awesome game on the internet.  I am a member of the top 50 with over 300K score ad 13K wins, so yeah I've played the game quite a bit.  If you've played me in T50 you know I am a huge fan of life decks and I like to put up crazy biting farms.  I am an active forum member with over 1000 posts and I serve the community as a deck helper.  I have helped newbs and pros alike construct their decks.  I play a majority of the time on Kongregate (jmdt in room 1), and I help newbs there daily and send them to the forums to hopefully get them anchored into elements.

Due to my scientific background, I must test every deck to see how well it works and if it can be improved.  This desire led to my famous turns to win study (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,8813.0.html) and the follow up win time study (http://win time study).  As part of my testing I have also created several popular decks such as The Ultimate Speed EM Deck (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,10563.0.html) and Da Fastest Speedbow Eva! (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,11757.0.html).

Enough about me, as a council member I will do my best to see that every decision helps elements the game and its community move forward.  Elements is a pretty awesome game already, but has much more potentialy to grow.  I will use the logical thinking my engineering studies have taught me to serve the council and community to the best of my abilities.

So wait, why the f***ing hell should you vote for me, this random guy on the forums?

First of all, I am more than just random. I am known very well throughout the forums - sometimes I lurky in the Card Ideas section, sometimes I lurk in the Decks section, sometimes I lurk in General Discussion, and sometimes I lurky in Off-Topic. Many of my posts are either long and constructive or brief and carries my message well. I've also been known to make some interesting decks using underused cards - for example, I started/popularized Adrenacrawlers (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,12345.0.html) and Toadfish Water/Air duos (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,10302.0.html). I've made a lot of interesting, unique, and balanced card ideas as well.

Enough of my forum life - you can see more of my posts and such just by browsing the forums. I'm quite known on the Elements chat room on Kongregate, helping new players with decks, farming help, and such. In fact, I have actually volunteered to lose thousands of score simply to let a new player farm me on PvP2 for Lobos, saving him the time to find a Lobo farm on T50. Other newbies have benefited off my deck and account help, and are now becoming more and more known in the Elements community.

Well, there's not much more to tell about me. I'll let someone else have their turn and stop bragging showing my contributions. Thank you for your time,

Guolin Mudkipius, Water Aficionado/Zealot, Card Idea maker, Deck creator.

Ahh, I see SG has already removed the option to view your votes, although some (potential) candidates were pretty clear at the time I looked, good job to you lucky people, hopefully I can join you :)

Righty, time for the speech :S :L
I was going to write it yesterday, but I was busy >_< and I guess with Halo Reach arriving tomorrow not today I have time today ;)
3rd page, oh well, i'm taking my shot!

Hi, I'm Ant-n-ero, call me Ant (don't confuse me with Antagon!!! >:D)

I'm not sure how well known I am in the community yet, you may have seen me around the place, in most areas of the forums, also I joined chat a few weeks ago so you may have seen me on there :) I also hope to increase my activity over the weeks to become well known, and to get involved more in the community, such as join PvP tournements maybe, or maybe even join an elements council *hint hint* ^_^

I am active Daily, in the early mornings (~7:30 - 8:15am) and also in the evening (usually anytime(s) between 4 and 10:30pm (GMT))

tbh I don't have a clue what to put, this kinda thing is new to me o_O
I guess I would like to be on the elements council because I want to help to make some real things happen to a thing that people use daily, to give feedback, use feedback, even change aspects of Elements maybe
I feel I have sat in the shadows a bit too much and I want to get out there and be the best I can be to the community

if you vote for me, thank you very much :)
if not, meh, it's worth a shot, with so many awesome 'contenders' out there,

good luck to all :)

How long does a council last?  Is a new one elected every war or what?  How would a council work?  Do we send an idea to a council member and they have a private chat about the idea and release their views to us?

I hope the council members are re-elected every three months, at least.  It is always nice to have new folk in government.

Seeing Kael's name on the ballot, it appears as though I missed the post where it was determined that forum staff are not guaranteed to be a part of the council. I'll join next time.
