Doppelganger-Mechanic Idea https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=41473.msg514113#msg514113
« on: June 23, 2012, 08:34:45 am »
The Doppler effect:
The apparent change of frequency for an observer of an "periodic event".
(e.g. A sound changing pitch as it gets closer and farther from you even though it's the same.)

That theme idea could potentially go in several directions (feel free to show your own ideas) mine being the doppelganger-clone idea, one that the shift creates copies in the shadow of the wave.

Creature Skill Effect
Doppelganger: When this creature is played multiple illusions of it are created, too. (2-3)

Notes and Questions:
- The illusion could be limited for a set number of turns or indefinite.
- Makes you have to guess for single targeting CC... a kind of evasion.
- The creature position is shuffled in with the clones.
- Could be a spell card that either goes, "the next creature played has doppelgangers"  or
"target creature has doppelgangers (shuffled then)"
- Could work with permanents.

Thoughts?

Edit: I refined and clarified it a little.

huh, i actually REALLY like the illusion idea. but automatically on a creature wont work that well. i think it would work better as a spell

As far as I know, doppler and doppelganger are two unrelated "phenomena".

Still I like the doppelganger idea, imho it could be a creature that when played creates another copy of itself. Only one of them is causing damage when attacking, but as far as at least one of them is on the field, it deals damage (so you need to destroy all of them to avoid being hit by it). Or something like that.

How about this:

Doppler Spirit (Spell)
Cost: TBD
Element:  :aether, maybe  :time
Effect - Possess: when targeted creature is destroyed, the next creature in order (by slot) becomes a copy of this creature and gains -1/-1.

Could be used for a variety of purposes: as CC (play it on a Photon to kill a Light Dragon [this + Rage Elixer, or Shockwave, etc.); Aggressively (Play on your Crimson Dragon, to turn your next 2 Brimstone Eaters into Dragons after Cremation); and Defensively (this + Bone Wall in a  :water stall could be fun).

My take on the Doppler Effect, as applied to Doppelgängers.
The counter to :gravity isn't :aether; it's :D

I thought the illusion idea might be liked  ;D actually, when I thought of this it was originally a spell idea.

Doppelgangers were a science-fiction idea based on the Doppler shift that's name was later given to an actual mental condition. Interesting take on the idea though.

Hmm... I really like the Parallel Universe with a debuff part. Theoretically cheaper. Also an interesting take.
