So dragons are the ultimate creatures in terms of power, unsurpassed when it comes to one on one.  But to become this, there must have been trials of sorts, other creatures with whom they fought, and eventually conquered, to reach this peak of power.
In that case, whatever happened to the losers, the runner-ups in this evolutionary contest?  Well, these draconian creatures still exist, waiting for the time when they can take, or maybe reclaim, the seat of power held by the dragons.  Whether they be anthropods or serpentile, landlocked or airborne, they bide, waiting for the right moment...
