Strange... And quite nice. But why would it be :aether? It would enable :aether towers users to heal themselves somehow, but still... Why not make it for example :time or :life? The latter probably not, they already have :life quanta generators...
Plus, as it is a flower, shouldn't it rather use :water for activation?

Welcome to Duality, where everything has a reason.

:life is represented by the fact that it is a flower and "spreads" like some plants do when they release seeds.
:aether is represented by the immmortality given to the seedling, which is both a blessing and a curse - it protects the seedling from most CC but means it must be used carefully if you don't want the seed to overgrow.  In a sense, you must be "clear" on how far you want the flowers to grow.

Well, really, you don't need to wait for Old Tree's opinion: everything is explained quite well in the Card Cost Theory (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,16655.0.html) topic linked in his sig. Using this theory, I get the following values:
Lapis Seedling is worth 1 (attack) + 1 (generate same element quanta) = 2   (actually, Lapis Seedling generates cross-element quanta, but since it actually costs :life to spawn it with the Lapis Blossom, I think it should be counted as same-element quanta).
Lapis Blossom is worth 1 (attack) + 2 (spawns creatures) + 2 (value of the spawned creature) - 1 (duo-element ability) - 1 (expensive ability) = 3
Therefore the card is (theoretically) perfectly balanced ^^


One could pretty well run the upgraded version with only a Mark of Life and Pillars of Aether: the Mark would pay the first Seedling, and further Seedlings would be spawned thanks to the quanta generated by the first Seedlings. RoL/Hope will be superseded by Lapis Seedling/Phase Shield !!! (just kidding).

Oops, totally forgot about Immaterial. However, I think that the Immaterial status is at the heart of Zblader's idea (look at his Notes and his answer).
Meaning that increasing the casting cost would be more appropriate than removing the Immaterial status.

Correct, however immaterial is meant to be a disadvantage here since all the Seedlings could be easily be blocked with a shield.  This also prevents them from use with Fallen Druid.

Does a playing cost of 4 | 3 sound good?

Well, if you consider Immaterial to be really double-edged (i.e. worth 0), then the current cost of 3|2 is adequate. Since the opponent would probably want to take down the Blossom rather than the Seedling, Immaterial only helps against mass creature control: Firestorm, Thunderstorm and Panda. On the other hand, it prevents using the Seedlings as Mutation/Cremation/Fractal fodder. I think it's fair enough  ;)
