I struggled in horror as she was to be executed. I wasn't anything back then, just an ordinary soldier with a generic love tragedy. Or so I thought.

"No! Why, why,why did this have to happen!" I screamed to her, and she somehow heard me despite the frenzied crowd.

"I don't know. Was it really wrong for us to do this? To love when we could not love anymore else more?"

"But then what? Couldn't we have ran, to somehwhere? We'd both still be alive!"

"No, that's wouldn't have been right. I guess we're both weak, are we? Having to be so honest about something like this."

She gave me a tearful smile as the blade came down on her- and the entire world burst into flames.  They violently consumed everything, from the crowd to her face. I thought it was a dream. But when I blinked again, I saw ashes.... and yet where she had been, there was no ash at all, it seemed to swirl away from that very spot as if afraid of it.  I thought she'd died, but I saw a strange man walking towards me.

"She lives." Was all he said.

"But how?!"

"I don't know. Somehow, an idea, something, a strong thought, has had her survive. She's not around though." He looked at me strangley. "Were you the one with such a strong thought? I never knew the people of this region to have a deep blue hair like yours."

I looked at mirror he handed me, and realized that my hair had indeed changed from a deep red to soft blue, but I had little time to think about that, for he spoke again.

"Do you want power?"

"Yes."

"What kind?"

"The... the power to save others from death!"

"You'll be seeing her again soon then."

He vanished them. I thought I'd failed, until I noticed the energy crackling at my fingertips.

I am no longer a soldier, but more of a healer. My power only works with those near death, and it doesn't work all the time. For those that my power fails to do any good, I do my best to give them a peaceful death.  I do it for her, so maybe we'll meet again someday, whether it be here, the battleground, or the afterlife.

I know we'll meet again. Why, you ask? From despair, hope always comes.

Very nice. This would be an interesting synergy with sparks.

Could two of these theoretically clone a creature that dies?

Yes, you could potentialy get two copies of the creature, possibly being able to set up for a "wave effect" Fractal Sparks or AoE Counter-Rush.  Those are just possible uses.  8)

. . . Wouldn't it just be thematically more impressive to have the creature be rewound? After all, I don't think cards are meant to react to other cards based on their upgrade condition.

It doesn't react based on upgrade status. All this means is that the creature that is spawned is always the un-upgraded version.

I know, but I think it's a bit awkward for something to forcibly make things unupgraded. It just doesn't suit combat.

OT questioned this too, but doublecross had explained it on the series thread:

Well, for  :time it makes sense (restoring time to before the death, but with a twist)
For  :aether it makes sense because it is copying the essence of the creature in the brief moments before it shuffles off our mortal coil.
It's not exactly a combat ability, more like a healing/revival/protection one.

Well, I don't think it is that bad.  For instance graveyard can make upgraded skeletons out of un-upgraded creatures.

First off, nice very creative idea, so if the dead creature is already unupped, it get revived to it's normal state, right? And also, this might seem a bit powerful with Minor Pheonix, unlimited deaths, and revival to 7|1 from a 2 quanta creature?  :o

First off, how do you plan of killing the pheonix again and again?

Well, the revival is not guaranteed, and cost wise, it is not all that different from 1 :time to turn a 4 attack graboid into a 10 attack shrieker.

Plus this creature could be killed, ending the effect, of pheonix could be lobo'd.

Finally, that would require a :fire/ :aether  or  :fire:time deck. Since those synergies don't really exist all that much right now, this combo would require a deck built exclusively around it for it to be effective, at which point, it gets beaten by things like lava golem or normal phoenix/immolation rush.

I am going to say that I do not at all think it is OP.

Furthermore, the upped pheonix generating un-upped pheonixes scenario would not effect most PVP, because usually upped cards are banned.
If upped cards are allowed, there would be much better decks.
