Overview

Shard of Bravery is a card that forces the opponent to draw up to 3 cards, while the user draws a matching number of cards, dramatically increasing deck speed.

General Use

Quick Facts:

  • Useless against Sanctuary
  • Forces opponent to draw 2 (3 if mark) cards
  • Draw the same number of cards opponent drew

At a glance, Shard of Bravery seems to do only one thing, draw cards faster. As basically a faster version of Precognition, and being a rainbow card, Shard of Bravery seems like it would fit into any deck, but there is more than meets the eye. Shard of Bravery forces the opponent to also draw, so one who uses this card recklessly might find that they have helped their opponent more than themselves. One also has to be careful in using this, since if the opponent has a sanctuary, the effects of this card are completely negated. Shard of Bravery is used in decks that rely on speed and multiple card combos, but can also be useful in a rush who just needs that one extra turn of drawing and topdeck to go in for the kill. Another use for Shard of Bravery is to force deck out. Since it forces the opponent to draw before the user, if one's opponent has empty spaces in their hand and a thinning deck, the user of Shard of Bravery can help his or her opponent deck out faster.

Synergies

Immolation is all about speed. In addition to the freed up hand space that can be filled up with cards, Immolation also provides 11 :rainbow quanta, enough to power many shards without worry of quanta shortage. As an immolation based deck is one of the fastest types of rush decks, the draws that an immolation deck gets outweigh many of the disadvantages of Shard of Bravery, that of filling up the opponent's hand.

Ironically a counter to Shard of Bravery, Sanctuary can be used alongside Shard of Bravery to great effect. In a stall deck, not only does Sanctuary provide passive healing to its user, but it also prevents the user from being forced to draw with Shard of Bravery. With a stall that even doesn't have more cards than an opposing deck, careful planning and playing of Shard of Bravery when the user's hand is full but the opponent's isn't causes a steady card gap to slip in between and lead to victory by deckout.

Other Cards With Synergy

Shard of Bravery can fit into any rush deck, but it sees most of its advantages come from decks. It is for this reason that Shard of Bravery will be most often seen alongside cards like Phoenix, Crimson Dragon, and Seraph. Another very popular usage for Shard of Bravery is inside a Shard of Integrity deck, where it can be used as quick drawing, as well as a huge boost to damage.

Conclusion

Shard of Bravery is certainly a unique and interesting card, but it requires experience and skill to be utilized to its fullest potential. Much of the usefulness of Shard of Bravery comes from knowing when to use it for extra draw, and when to use it to force the opponent to draw.
