Artist's Comment

"One of my favorite pieces ingame. Made for the concept by moomoose, Psion is a work of art that I'm very proud of. The definition on the creature, as well as the sense of perspective and swirly magics, it works, and pulls the creature together. I'm very glad to see this one ingame!" -vrt

Overview

Psion is the second reasonably-costed mid-attacker in . "Spell Damage" refers to damage such as Lightning, in which the damage dealt is unaffected by damage reducing shields, but is reflected by both Emerald Shield and Reflective Shield.

General Use

Quick Facts:

  • Psion cannot have its attack reduced or be harmed by shields.
  • If the opponent has a reflective shield (a shield that reflects spells) up, Psion will attack its owner.
  • "Psion" is an active ability which can be lobotomized.

Psion can be thought of as the Elite Charger of . The only difference is that where Elite Charger will always attack (unless frozen or delayed) no matter what shield the opponent has up, Psion's attacks can be reflected by two specific shields.

Psion is a great addition to lots of decks. Unless the opponent has one of these shields out, Psion can only be countered by CC. Its 4|5 health allows it to be killed by Shockwave / Lightning, and its ability is active, so it can be lobotomized, but it shares the element of Quintessence, and is a steady attacker.

Synergies

As Psion can be quite easily killed, (only 4/5 health) Quintessence is a great way to make an almost uncounterable steady mid-attacker. It is best not to use it unless you are sure your opponent does not have a reflective shield in their deck, in order to allow them to be lobotomize or killed if one is played.

If your opponent plays a reflective shield, your Psions will start to damage you. To stop the damage getting out of control, you can lobotomise to stop it dealing spell damage, and allow it to continue attacking your opponent. You can also lobotomize pesky creatures like Mind Flayer who lobotomize your Psion's ability, Elite Otyugh and Scarab who, if big enough, can eat your Psions, and Fallen Elf who can change your Psion into something useless, or kill it. Lightning can also be used for both these purposes.

If you nightmare Psion with a reflective shield up, you are essentially clogging the opponent's hand, because they cannot play the Psions if they don't have any , and if they do, it is unikely they want to play creatures that will start attacking them. This is fun to play against the AI, as it plays the Psions regardless of your shield.

Other Cards With Synergy

As with any card that bypasses (most) shields, the more damage the better. Chaos Power is a cheap boost to your Psion's attack, though cannot be used unupped. Improved Blessing is a more newbie-friendly choice, and can be used in the previously mentioned deck. Players may also pair Psion up with Shard of Wisdom and an immortal creature (such as Phase Dragon and Immortal) to maximise their use of Spell damage.

Other Information

Psion was a card idea thought up by a community member by the name of moomoose. The original thread can be found here.

Conclusion

A great example of the many dimensions of , Psion is a good, sturdy, mid-attacker that will bypass most shields. It is great in some decks, and exceptional in decks built around it.
