And then there is what happens within the Elemental's mind.

Hmm, for the  one, maybe this:

Love the series but think that some of the artwork could be a little spiced up.

For your  problems maybe something like Alzheimers that causes the opponent to not be able to see their cards for the next turn or two but they can still play them.
