I am working on a time card series based around discard mechanics. Thematically discarding is equated to "lost time".
Discarding, here, is extended to include cards discarded from a players hand or deck.
The idea is to have a set of cards that
1) Have abilities that trigger when a card is discarded
2) Have abilities that require the owner to discard a card as part of their cost
or
3) Have abilities / effects that are activated by being discarded
The last point is where I need the most help since make abilities that function like that is the most challenging.
I.e.
-Its hard to keep a thematic link strong for an "discard to cast" spell since they effectively have cost of 0 (e.g. can be cast regardless of what quanta a player has available).
-They can become overpowered very easily (again, its as if their casting cost was 0)
I would like to get some feedback / suggestions on what kind of abilities would be good here.
For the most part I would like them to be mildly beneficial (as opposed to eternal spells where discard effects tended be detrimental for balance purposes).
For now I've just been using "Generate
if discarded" because it is low key and won't break any thematic boundaries… but other than scavenger, more unique and card specific effects could be better.
