If you were good at making effective, creative decks, you would be good at PvP.
How about you play in some tournaments and events to prove yourself?

Well, to be personally honest, I don't have tons of cash to splash on decks, and I just can't be bothered to spend ~1000 electrum a week. :3

...Although, if anyone does want to try out mentoring, the Kong chat is a good place to start. Lots of newbs and random questions to be answered there.

I couldn't agree less with Dm and Root.

Since when is PvP vastly different from PvE? Are there different cards or more synergies? The ONLY difference between PvP and PvE is the thing that you play against a human. How could not having trophies demonstrate that you are not a good deckbuilder, or not a good player? Since when is that a rule?

I only play pvp with friends, Afdarenty most of the time, mostly because there is no one in PvP and even when there is someone, they play decks like poison dials and other boring decks. Note: boring deck=/=deck that wins against me.

Let me make something clear: PvP=/=knowledge, just as trophy=/=knowledge. If you think that this is the case, you're very much in error. I'm sure there are at least some people that agree with me.

In my opinion there's a world of difference between PvP and PvE.  In PvE, the AI can be baited into dumb decisions, the AI can't play specific combo decks because it doesn't know to wait for specific cards, and with the exception of Plat farming decks, the decks used for PvE are generally optimized for speed over winrate.   The balance of cards in PvP decks and PvE decks is often very different, as the goals are different.

1.) Most PvP tournaments and events have deckbuilding restrictions (this is so that decks like poison dials aren't allowed, or aren't nearly as strong). In my Sacrifice event, for example, only one player even has access to Sundial. Furthermore, cards like Dimensional Shield and Discord are banned, while rainbow decks are impossible to build. But I don't see you on the sign-up list...

2.) Furthermore, a lot of the best PvP decks are unthinkable in PvE. This is for two major reasons. The first being that the opponents are simply different. PvE opponents usually have more than 100 health and most of them have double draw. The second is that PvE is about farming as much gold as possible, as opposed to having the highest win rate possible. As a result, deckouts and OTKs are not nearly as good for PvE as they are for PvP.

I also agree with the points made by theelkspeaks.

And lastly, as I've said before, there's not a perfect 100% correlation between trophies and PvP ability. Yes, there are some players who have fewer trophies who are stronger than players who have more trophies. I remember dragonsdemesne had a lot of 2nd place finishes before his first tournament win, and now he's one of the very best players. So, yes, it's possible that you could be a good PvP player and not have any trophies. I never said it wasn't. The reason I want a minimum PvP requirement is that it's not worth risking an inadequate mentor. It's not worth the chance that some of our Mentors could be just as inexperienced in PvP as their apprentices.

I met a guest a few days ago who had been playing Elements for only two days. His mono fire deck, while far from being perfect, was probably stronger than some of the decks I've seen used by players who have been here for months.

We have so many people who are willing to be a Mentor. We only need half of them, at most. So, why take the chance that some of our Mentors could be inadequately experienced in PvP? We want our apprentices to have top quality Mentors, and nothing lesser.

Ah, well. I can only hope that they'll choose players like Odii, Spike, and Blacksmith.
Somehow still around, somewhat

What in the honest..

"Sure. Continue using your decks full of cards that are pretty much always banned in any PvP event and using that deck you stole off forum to farm whatever Arena level it is, thinking that's similar to PvP experience, without ever having to analyze meta or deckbuild with restrictions...

In a much easier example, here's how much PvE and PvP differs:

That Brave Malignant Ball Deck with an absurd win ratio against FG.
It wouldn't work against a human player one out of a hundred.

Those shards in almost all of your farming decks.
99% of the time, they're banned.

I can see both points of view but ys ultimately it's the apprentices who choose the mentors. In some cases it is better to have an expert pvper as a mentor if your interested in going into competitive meta but sometimes some people have a knack for it and sometimes you need someone who sucked at first and has improved so they can understand your situation. Let's say this idea was up about a year ago when i was just entering competitive meta. I would rather someone could have taught me from experience as entering the competitive meta and not doing well and how they improved rather than someone who told me this is what you need to do follow this and you will start winning.
love makin my decks unusual if able. Chaos and luck are widely regarded as different i beg to differ just refer to :entropy but for those in the know also refer to :time and :death.

Ah, so, in order to be an experienced player, you need to have tons of time avaible?
moreover, at specific times? Like 3 hours in a row (tournaments)? Or to find the correct time both can be online?

be quick- time is quanta.
