This is exactly why I want to have stricter minimum requirements. Not because it's impossible for someone to be a good mentor without PvP experience, but because we have enough people willing to be Mentors, so why take the risk by having a Mentor with no PvP awards?
Not everything is about PvP. There are a lot of non-PvPers, too.

I'm sure Submachine/[Insert another amazing person here] can filter out a good 5-7 on thier own. Artificial barriers like time and post count cause weird things. If we only need five to seven, not tons of mentors, I don't think we need a filter.
If I master this game in one month (And it's possible, I was bronze and pvp-1 grinding with my own deck without any help when I came back to this with a reset account in 2013, with an almost triple win-loss ratio from those two sources.) then I'm barred. Reason being...?

Umm, I am one of those people who doesn't really play pvp events very often and I don't play very much pvp in general, but that doesn't mean I don't have experience. EtG is not only about PvP, there is PvE as well.

Just because I don't play pvp that much and I don't have a lot of fancy trophies that doesn't mean I don't know the in and outs of the game.

I think we should have a minimum post restriction at most, like 500 or something, I don't know, that's up to Sub.

You're not making any sense whatsoever. The FEWER Mentors we need, the HIGHER the requirements for being a Mentor should be. This is why there are higher requirements for being a Navy SEAL than for being a traffic cop. It's just obvious common sense.

If I were an apprentice, I'd rather pick a player who can teach me PvE and PvP over someone who can just teach me PvE.

The fact that a sentient rock could teach me about PvE aside, the fact stands that if you can have a mentor who also has PvP prowess along with PvE prowess, there's no reason to include a bunch of people who fit only one of the requirements when there are people who fit both.

I think it's up to the appertiance to choose wether he go for pvr or pvp. I see no reason not to allow people that fits the recruiments. In the end it's the beginners that make their pick anyway.

I'd be surprised as for which human being would pick someone with lesser knowledge to teach him over someone who has more knowledge.

The fact that there are better people than me to teach about PvE (since I lost patience with grinding) and PvP (I'm intermediate at best) is why I want to help with the fanfics CIA.

We need a larger number of mentors for the most popular topics (to avoid overload), but also variety.

There are more than 6 navy seals, that have to be picked from more than 20 applicants.
Requirements and filters are used to reduce application processing time, there not being any time to remove here.
Hand-picking for this task should be easy and take about 10 minutes, if that.
And hand-picking gets rid of all the weird grey areas requirements give.

Variety is pretty nice, but a lot of the skills do overlap.
I'm good at creative decks, but I'm... Unattuned in PvP.
Tournaments give you about a week to make a deck. Isn't creativity in deckmaking a skill I can teach aspiring PvPers, which I am good at, the same as building a tournament deck, taking and exploiting advantages? Seeing taking and exploiting advantages is a creative deckbuilding skill...
And one could say tournament decks have to be good... Isn't the key to making a tournament deck nothing more than finding something that works that's acceptable, then testing it over and over and over, then replacing all the cards you don't use with cards you will, testing it over and over until it works? Isn't that a tournament deck in a nutshell?

Just my two cents.
It's not like my opinion's ever actually been worth anything... I don't mean that in a sarky way.

I've read through most of your conversations, I'm not gonna quote. I think what I want to say is adressed to multiple persons.

There is difference between 2 people who are both professional PvP players. When it's up to mentoring, it's not only about who is better or who knows more. It's more about the interactions with other people. Let's have some examples:

Say we have a player with professional PvP skills, many awards, massive experience, some nice qualities regarding Elements. But when it comes to interacting with people, he wants to dominate. He looks down on everybody and makes people feel bad. Would he/she be a nice Mentor?

Also let's say we have an Apprentice who just wants help to build a good deck. His Mentor wants to train him to become one of the best players in the world, while the Apprentice has no intention to reach any higher than just making a good deck and having fun.

A third example is a Mentor who knows everything about the game and the forum. Literally. However, he/she sucks at teaching others. He knows how to do it, but he can't explain anything without confusing other people.

The 4th example is another Apprentice. He absolutely ignores the game, for some reason. However, he would really like to participate in Brawl and other Forum Games, but he/she isn't confident enough to start. He/she thinks that it might be too difficult. This Apprentice also has some really nice card ideas, but he haven't even heard about Xenocidius'es card maker tool. He/she would need a different kind of mentor. (here comes andretimpa)

These examples reflect that there is difference between good player and good player, that's why I don't think we should limit the number of Mentors too much. I think the cap should be around ~12, but 15 max. I'm still waiting for Odii Odsen, because he also noted he might want to join.
And we keep driving into the night
It's a late goodbye, such a late goodbye...

I would eventually like to be a mentor, but I know I'm nowhere near qualified to be one yet.  The idea of working with new players and helping them improve and enjoy the game more is something that excites me, but I know that at this point, I don't have enough experience to be suitable in a mentoring role.

I hope that there will be future opportunities to join the mentoring team.  For now, I'm actually an apprentice!
