Out of curiosity, how do you think a karma system will improve the forums? I've been somewhere else where it hasn't seemed to devolve into drivel (I more lurk than post though) but with the exception that major members (ie mod developers) gain insane amounts of karma. I'm more or less indifferent at the moment, but I do thank you for taking the time to get it up and running.
I guess the whole idea is to improve the quality of the community by encouraging users to help other users, make useful tutorials, etc. because that gives you Karma and makes you "cool".
Also with Karma system people have to think before they post, because if they are being assholes, they will get bad Karma for it and their "importance" as members of this community will diminish. But of course there are also those who couldn't care less and Karma has no effect to them one way or another.
I personally don't think Karma is a big deal. It's just something extra we have and nobody should take it too seriously.
