the above post pretty much highlights the main reason i am disinterested in this tournament- not that the rules are unclear or that the ghost rules could be further refined, but the existence of extra "twists" in a card design challenge. feels a little like an m night shamalamadingdong movie. personally i feel it takes away from the competition, rather than adds to it. thats just my opinion and im sure others feel differently.
IMHO, theManuz's post and your post are two different views on the same subject rather than points that support each other - Manuz is asking to see if the concept can be improved or changed and you're suggesting that the extra "Ghosts" thing takes away from the competition's quality. (Do note we haven't even seen this action yet and PvP events are probably more complicated or have more bells and whistles than this.) I personally feel that the twists help add a little excitement into a rather straightfoward tournament of 1vs1 polls that do produce interesting results but can become a bit repetitive over time. Ghosts help to alleviate this by making sure participants stay on their toes and design interesting cards.
Also note that being a Ghost is optional - if you lose and don't want to do anything, you don't have to.
We just need 10 more participants for a full 32-player roster. Otherwise, I'll have to scale it back to 16 players...
Thanks for all those who signed up so far! ^_^ If you have any major complaints or issues with the rules, please state them in this thread, and I may actually remove them if such changes were to increase activity.
I like the curse, nothing to say about that.
But i find that possession is a little complicated. You have to make a card, redistribute points, guess the number of votes (before or after the redistribution?)... Before. If it was after, you could just redribute X points to get your target guess.
Wouldn't be nice to give the ghost the possibility to go back into the game, if his/her card is more favored than the other two challengers' cards?
To be fair, this is a tournament where losers are eliminated. Having a ghost go back into the game complicates the brackets and basically is like saying "Losses don't count", which could be kind of annoying if a contestant who has worked hard the entire competition gets his victory stolen by a lucky guesser.
another issue i brought up in chat is the purity of the voting, and means to ensure detachment between the card submitter and the voters, so that a card designer cannot simply ask his friends to vote for his entry to move on in the competition. but that may be a topic for another thread.
Yes, that's most likely for another thread, but telling your friends to simply vote for you in the competition technically breaks our Advertising Policy (
http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,16251.0.html) - you may only promote the competition itself outside of the thread, not specific cards.
BAD:
"Hey all, vote for my entry, #, in the 'X-Competition' ASAP please! It's a cool idea" (In elements-chat)
"Hey all, vote for my entry, #, in the 'X-Competition' ASAP please! It's a cool idea" (In Kong-chat)
"Hey all, vote for my entry, #, in the 'X-Competition' ASAP please! It's a cool idea" (Anywhere else that isn't the Polls/voting Topic)
Since we can't moderate PMs or real life chatter, the best we can do is to rely on the honor system. If you can't let your card win fairly, then why bother? Part of the competition is the fun, after all.
