The ULTIMATE Photoshop CARD TEMPLATES v2.2.2 https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=891.msg8336#msg8336
« on: December 15, 2009, 10:10:08 pm »
Here is a better and easier tool for building card images: http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,7251.0.html

The ULTIMATE Photoshop CARD TEMPLATES

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE TEMPLATE (http://www.mediafire.com/?zttn2ddk0wl)

v2.2.2
- improved upgraded card gradient by jmizzle7
- decreased card description line-height (because most ideas have a lot of text)

v2.2.1
- Added "Art By.." text field (add the artist name or the website url the image was taken from)

v2.2
- Kamietsu helped by adding some stuff
          - all card backs have now borders!
          - transparent corners (remember to save the file as PNG to get these)
          - card background for "Other"
          - better upgraded card gradient (most visible on the lower right corner)
- Other improvements
          - Cooler "READ FIRST" layer
          - more space for the card name
          - description text slightly moved

v2.1
- simplified the file by making some changes to grouping
- added image inserting tutorial
- fixed an issue with card description

v2.0
- new easier to use grouping system
- icons for spells and permanents
- upgraded card template (effect + title)[/size]

Card templates are almost identical to original ones but there are some minor changes like different font (Arial) because the font that Zanzarino used is not found on every computer.

WARNING! You need Photoshop or some other software (http://www.raymond.cc/blog/archives/2008/10/02/how-to-open-psd-extension-files-without-installing-adobe-photoshop/ (http://www.raymond.cc/blog/archives/2008/10/02/how-to-open-psd-extension-files-without-installing-adobe-photoshop/)). It also helps if you understand how layers work.

1. Download the file attached to this post
2. Open the file in Photoshop (or some other software that can read PSD-files)
3. Read the short tutorial
4. Start editing your image
5. Save the image for Web as JPG or PNG
6. Attach the image to your post

Download the fonts Dauphin and Gill Sans MT, and paste them in your C:/Windows/Fonts directory . You can use other fonts too but if you want it to be perfect, use these two.

No problem. Hopefully it will be easy to use. If you have any question or suggestions on how to make it better, just let me know.

Fair point, although I could be really annoying and say...

Me, because it means there's none left afterwards.

I am confident that this template is very close to being the best possible Elements card template you can make with today's technology. It might sound like bragging but I just don't find a way to make it easier and more efficient. If you know how to use Photoshop and layers, you can design and export a ready card in one minute.

That's why I'm calling it the ultimate. If someone designs a better one, I will happily change the name, maybe even delete the whole thing :)

My goal is not to stroke my ego. I am a very visual person so naturally I like card ideas with pictures. I would hope more people would use this (or some other) template and make pictures. Trust me, your ideas get more attention that way. Reading pages and pages of cards ideas in text format can become boring.

Ha. I managed to open this with Adobe Fireworks CS3. First the program was not responding, but then it opened. When I checked the properties of the file, I saw that it was larger than 4 MB... No wonder.

SG, maybe you should put each template as a separate file, and add them to an RAR or a ZIP or something...

Did I just not find it, or did you have no spell and permanent icons in your templates?

And if this isn't too much trouble, give us the templates for the upgraded cards.
Or at least tell me what should I do other than making the title black. What filter should I add? I can experiment myself, but I want to be perfectly exact.
To be or not to be, I can do both at once. Go learn quantum mechanics, n00b.

The whole idea is to have everything inside the same file. This way you don't need 12 different files. Hiding and unhiding folders inside that file will basically do the same as opening a new file. It's very simple.

Yeah, I didn't put those because I wanted to keep things simple and didn't find them to be important. You can easily see from the description what kind of card it is. But if it is needed, I can add them np.

Why add a filter? Why not just make the text dark gray (70-85%) and remove that drop shadow? I personally find making two copies of each card (regular and upgraded) a waste of time.

Remember, I want to make cards as similar to real cards as possible. So I do need the symbols.

For upgraded cards, there is a white light/fog effect on the card template, in addition to the black text.

Screenshot them.

I think you are taking this way too seriously. If you want that effect, I'm pretty sure you could use gradient layer effect.

I can't screenshot the symbols. They'll be too blurry. Tried it once, gave up.

I don't know how you guys do it... Do you just redraw the whole symbol?
