The beholder is an abberation, thought it would get along fine with creatures like otyugh or chimera.

Where should it fit in more?

Maybe gravity is the best choice. xD (I thought darkness first^^)

Anyway, doing some maths maybe you could decrease its cost to 3|3.

Beholder: 2 (atk) + 2 (ability) + 1 (hp) - 1 (duo ability) - 1 (high cost for the ability) = 3

Elder Orb: 2 (atk) + 2 (ability) + 1 (hp) - 1 (duo ability) - 1 (upgraded) = 3

My turn to be a rules nazi!

beholders are copyrighted by wizards of the coast and cannot be used in fantasy games without permission. lolz who woulda known. not that I think this is a big deal but this forum seems pretty strict about copyright.

Maybe there are problems with the image, but I don't think there are problems with the card name? "Otyugh" is a d&d creature, but is also an element card.

Well I guess 3DO is going to be in trouble if they used Beholders in Heroes of Might and Magic III (http://www.heroesofmightandmagic.com/heroes3/creaturesdungeon.shtml).

I doubt using Beholder is a problem at all.
Else known as "JonTheBon"

I also make videos and stuff.

3DO might be a division of wizards of the coast . . .

I've seen other independent games use mind flayers before, and it never caused trouble that I know of.

If it's a problem just change the name to "floating eye". Since that's from Nethack (an open source game) it shouldn't cause trouble.

I like it as a :gravity creature. It fits with the whole "floating in air" thing.

Chaos seed on a stick is really powerful for a creature ability, but the high cost and that it needs a duo balance it fairly well.

Well, I read through many times WotC's licesences (though it's hard for me to comprehend texts like these even in my own language), and actually they claim Beholder as 'Product Identity', just like Mind Flayer and a lots of other creatures (otyugh too I believe), which is already in elements and countless other fantasy games - most of them not based on D&D setting, like Heroes for example. I don't really know if it's prohibited or not but if there is someone who can clarify  these things up a bit, it's more than welcome. But if it is, then probably a namechange should be neccesary.. ( :( )

Even Coryn named his illustration 'Beholder', and it was not meant for any WotC publication.

Thanks for the feedback so far.

You --could-- also call it Evil Eye | Evil Eye. Though I  have issues with the fact that it's a :gravity Gravity creature. I would be inclined to make it :death Death.

And also, it might just be me nitpicking, but I'd rather have skills that have the exact same effect as a spell card keeping the same name. In other words: Chaos Ray -> Chaos Seed.
