NOTES:
OK this is a new type of card concept; Hero.  Original post about it located here (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,20141.0.html)

Hero details:
- Would have their own slot like weapon and shield
- "Petrified" is the term for when a hero is in the slot and is a Totem
- "Animated" is the term for when a hero is on the field
- When deployed, Heroes don't always keep the same abilities.  Osin, for example, loses his passive skill and gains Atk and HP
- Two Heroes can't occupy one slot, just like a shields and weapons, only one in the slot at a time
- If a Hero is animated, poisoned, and then petrifies, he is healed of the poison; i.e. petrifying resets the Hero's state
- Totems are treated like other permanents; Permanent control such as Explosion will destroy the totem
- You can't have the animated Heros in your deck, only the Totems.  Much like how you can't have animated weapons in your deck

Good to see this series has started. It's a bit tricky to determine the cost, but overall it's like playing a 6  :life | 4  :life creature (Feels slightly OP ATM as a creature, attack probably should be 6). When treated as a permanent, it's effect can be pretty strong to argue a cost raise, but similar to weapons this would get a cost lowering due to there only being 1 hero slot.

The effects makes it very hard to price

Hero slot (This limits it to one in the slot at a time. This would normally be a -3quanta cost reduction but see Deploy.)
Deploy (This turns the Hero into a genuine creature. This also has the effect of making the single slot problem less of a drawback and more akin to a weapon that animates itself. However see Withdraw.)
Withdraw (Withdraw combined with Deploy allows the Hero to be completely healed and purified of status effects.)
Aura (The cost reduction aura while being in the hero slot makes the actual cost of the Hero less due to the quanta it saves that very turn. Lots of synergy with Fractal.)

Optimal Play seems to be:
Osin [X :life|Y :life]
Horned|Giant Frog [1 :life]
Fractal [10 :aether|9 :aether]
3-8 Horned|Giant Frogs [3-8 :life]
Wait 1-2 turns then
Empty hand as much as possible
Fractal [10 :aether|9 :aether]
2-8 Horned|Giant Frogs [2-8 :life]
and Deploy Osin [1 :life]

OT has a point - Frogtal would be quite strong with this.  Also, I'm not exactly sure how hard it would be to code changing the cost of a card in your hand, but you are coming up with an extremely radical idea anyway, so why not?

It would be simple, just make the card generate 1:life each time a life creature is summoned.

So there are a few topics to discuss here

1) The hero mechanic:
How does it work? (PC?, CC?, HC?, safe?)
How does it impact the balance of the card idea?

2) Theme:
What kinds of abilities are appropriate for Heroes to have?
Does this fit?

3) Balance:
How powerful is the ability?
Do the hero and creature aspects get balanced separately or does it have one calculation?
(The reason is if it deploy/withdraws once per turn it gets the hero ability once per turn and the creature attacks once every other.)

Thanks for all the input and comments.

As of this moment, I can't see dedicating specific new cards to "hero control", so as of right now, if a hero is in protection, he can't be harmed.  If deployed, he is treated like any other creature.  With this in mind we need to be extra careful to not make the Hero too strong in protection...  Perhaps some PC will work on it.
