I'll repeat for emphasis that creative new ideas (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,7206.0.html) that are not copies not only help give Air the structure it was seen to lack in the beginning but also get further in the voting. (Link was to an Armory card)
Well, I have no clue what you mean by "structure", but I know that Air has a theme. While Fire can quickly accumulate 100 damage (Immolation and fire creatures compared to regular old pillars, Fire Bolts compared to the other bolts), Air's theme is that most of its things cost very little and can easily be shoved into a random deck.
I also have no clue what makes people vote for cards, but I don't care. I know that I am sick and tired of new people looking at Dimensional Shields and yelling, "OP!" But more than that, I'm sick of others saying, "You deck should've contained a Deflagration, Steal, Butterfly Effect, or Pulverizer." Please. Only the first two can be shoved into any low-maintenance rainbow. So you know what I figured out?
We need more of those. We need more forms of cheap permanent control, but what element should I put it in? Maybe one whose theme is cheap copies and general flexibility.
Swept fits the Air theme perfectly. As Shockwave is a slightly nerfed Lightning with synergy with freeze, Swept is a slightly nerfed Deflagration with extra bells and whistles. As Fog Shield is a cheaper Dusk Mantle, Swept is a cheaper Steal.
To stop ranting and to actually reply to your post, I will leave you with this. This game does not need more new, exciting card ideas. This game needs more cards. It needs more staple cards. Just as every element needs a pillar, every element needs a mid-range attacker. Just as every element needs a dragon, a shield, a nymph, a rare weapon...
Every element needs a form of cheap permanent control, except maybe fire and darkness because they already have one. And I plan on submitting a cheap knock-off because that's what Air is, and I plan on submitting turn-the-permanent-into-a-pillar because that would have synergy with earthquake in Earth, and I plan on submitting a force-your-opponent-to-steal-the-target-permanent because Light is all about soft spells, as opposed to hard spells like deflagration.
And when I'm done with all of that, and they all get booted down into the archive, I'm going to quit this godforsaken game because it really just isn't worth it anymore.
