Masters' Tournament https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=18669.msg237861#msg237861
« on: January 01, 2011, 12:25:04 pm »
It's time for the showdown, between the best of the best! It's time, for the Masters' Tournament!

This is double-elimination tournament, meaning that a contestant will be eliminated upon having lost two duels. We have two sets of brackets, the winners bracket and losers Bracket. After the first round, the winners proceed into the winners bracket and the losers proceed to losers bracket.

10 Masters are participating. Opponents were determined randomly, in seedings done by Scaredgirl.

Deckbuilding rules:

  • Mono decks (cards from only one element, Mark cards are considered to belong to their element)
  • Any amount of cards
  • Upgraded cards are allowed
  • Any mark
  • You may ban one card from your opponent's use. The card remains the same throughout your whole set of duels with him/her. If you have 2 sets of duels versus the same person throughout the tournament you may choose to ban different cards
  • Deck can be changed at any time, unless there is a desync error. In that case players restart using the same deck
  • Shards are not allowed.
You will receive points in the Trials based on how good you did in this Tournament (see the rules (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,9414.0.html))

Duels are best-of-five and start right now, with each round lasting 4 days.

Post results here (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/board,370.0.html).

Good luck all.

Final Battle ban cards last Trials were submitted to SG and then posted when a timeline passed cuz otherwise it's advantageous to wait until your opponent announces his ban cards.

How and when should we announce banned cards here?

I was thinking you could just communicate the card directly to your opponent, perhaps using a 3rd person (I'm willing to be the 3rd person in any match).

I am also curious about the ban system. Do we PM someone in secret so that he can announce it public at the same time or do we talk openly about it until we figure out a compromise?

Whatever you feel best with, though I suppose PM'ing somebody in secret would be best to eliminate any potential suspicions. Though I know what you're gonna ban :P

Here's something you people can talk about:

My ban: Antimatter
Zeru's ban: Hope

EDIT: New rule: You may not ban Pillars or Pendulums.

Can we fast play if our opponent is known and ready to?

Just curious, what's the reasoning for going Mono decks this time around?  Didn't you guys decide that was a bad idea after the first Master's tournament long ago?

Yeah, pretty much everyone agreed it was a bad idea, including me, who ended up winning 15-0.

I did get pretty lucky that I avoided Gravity/Entropy though, the rest of my matches were very easy to counter since decks were so predictable.

Suggestion: The person who ends up in the loser's bracket for the final battle begins is 1-0 in the opponent's favor. Or possibly have it remade into a best-of-5 with the same disadvantage. Seems like it'd be a good idea to me.
