Players who lose their quarterfinal (Top 8) matches will compete for the 5th and 6th place prizes in a mini-tournament. Prize-eligible players (namely, ones in the top 8) who leave the tournament without notifying the Tournament Organizer of their intent are considered to have forfeited their match, and also their prize.

NOTE: Players with fewer than 15 forum posts are not allowed to enter tournaments. Spamming low-quality posts to reach the minimum post count needed to participate will not be tolerated.

Special Rules

• Upgraded cards and shards are not allowed (except SoG).
• Shard of Gratitude(SoG) is allowed with condition: if you include x copies of SoGs in your deck, the minimum number of each non-pillar/pend/mark cards in your deck is equal to x and the maximum number of each non-pillar/pend/mark cards in your deck is equal to x+2.
• All decks must have a Mark of Life  .
• If your deck has no SoGs, you can only have 1 copy of each non-pillar/pend/mark card.
• Quantum Pillar, Nova and Immolation are banned if there are SoGs in the deck.

Are upped SoGs allowed?

Donation cards come upgraded, although I don't know what it was like when they first came around. Although this is an unupgraded tournament, considering the theme and how readily available upgraded shards can be (and who wouldn't want to donate a little to Zanz?), it seems appropriate to allow them here (or maybe allow one or two upped per deck so people without them upgraded don't "have" to burn more than $10 to be completely competitive).

Although that would actually make sense and possibly encourage people to donate a few nickles to Zanz, our decision is to keep this tournament an unupgrade one. Considering the time it has been in game, also the usability of its unupped form, I don't think allowing upped SoGs is necessary.

That would have been my question. The latter basically is impossible to do, as it is subjective.

i would hope participants would be decent enough to actually use sog properly not as a basically dead card. but the ruling does mean you have to have basically extra dead cards for one card you were never really planning to use i would hope that ruling would discourage people to use non sog using decks. I would also say number of copies should only increase by one as the number of sogs do, so one sog would allow 2 copies, 2 would allow three copies and so on

That's not the task of a participant. Loopholes have to be detected before by the organizer and the rules have to be adjusted accordingly. If you start with these subjective crap, it only leads to catastrophes sooner or later, see Blarp winning a mark.

sorry for the argument Marsu but for a start can we put the blarp malarkey behind us it's been and gone nothing is going to change it as for the usage of sog as a respectable player i would say albeit it's not your duty to avoid abusing possible game changing loopholes, for respect of your opponent you should feel the need to not abuse a gamechanging loophole just my thoughts.

That's the point. For me, it's not an abuse, just an obvious perfection of your deck according to the rules given. Fippe and I both used death SoG's and I wasn't exactly surprised. And Fippe is a great sportsman.

What about a rule like this:

Your deck must also contain at least 4 life quanta sources (pillars/pends/standalone marks) and/or a life mark for the deck.

I am very happy if this is made an official rule. I'm just saying that you can't blame anyone from using dead SoG's if you don't somehow make it impossible through a specific rule.

I would agree. In the current state, I'd just run one SoG, and one life pendulum. It's hardly different from my old deck that exploited the loophole.
