Everyone still can, using upped is an option not a requirement. From looking at the war and looking at the poll i did the people that use the forum have plenty enough of upgrades.

Ooh, I like the upped ones; more possibilities for deckbuilding :)  This tournament looks like a lot of fun; there's a lot of possibilities, and there aren't any obvious dominant decks sticking out to me right away, at least, like there are for some other tournaments.

I had it unupgraded for a reason.  People still can join the upped tourney, but they will be much less competitive.  But whatever, I guess we will keep it.

I asked myself, what the free cards are. I hope, this list is right. I think it would be good, to add that to the OP.

Would this deck be legal? (I'm probably not using it, just confused)

No, even though that deck uses all death cards, it doesn't contain at least 50% from any one of the 4 class groups.  Here is an example of a (completely useless, so as not to give idea spoilers early) legal deck:

Hover over cards for details, click for permalink
Deck import code : [Select]
52i 52j 52k 5fk 5fk 5fk 5id 5id 5id 5id 5id 5rm 5rm 5rm 5rm 5rm 74b 74b 74b 74b 74b 78q 7bu 7la 7oe 7qa 7ta 7ti 7um 81q 8pr

The deck has 15 cards (50%) from the "Monsters and Critters" class, 5 ice dragons, 5 devonian dragons, and 5 elite otyughs.  The rest of the cards are all from death, darkness, gravity, fire, or time, or are pillars/pendulums of any type.

Damnit. I had the perfect deck to use in this tourney- but the tourney got changed to upped!

But I guess it's not fair if people with upped cards never get to use them.

[21:37] <Gumbeh> I should make some decks!
[21:39] <Gumbeh> oh crap, it's an upped tourney now...

  • So even if I use only legal cards, I still have to make sure 50% of them are from a "theme", then check my quanta usage again, then run a test, then try to analyze whether the changes have turned it into a subpar deck, then revise, then go back to step A.
  • Any given deck I field is only going to be 40-60% upgraded. So I can beat newbies and other half-upped players, but people with fully upped towers will play their cards one turn faster than I can.
  • It sounded like an interesting tourney with mildly headache-inducing deckbuilding rules, up until the bit about upgraded cards being added to the rules. Now it's a full headache as I balance making a good deck, making a legal deck, and upgrading a few cards I'm missing upped versions of with the :electrum I currently have.
Sounds like my time is better spent playing LoL this time around. :(  Thanks for tryin, jippy!
