Maybe give the top 6 players to confer with each other and have the power to prevent a player or two from being banned from next league with a weighted vote based on position. Not a popularity vote, but like if the season ended today, I dont think propheon for example would deserve to be banned from next season.

Could be abused sorta, but I think it would be an overall benefit.

I believe people joining leagues need at least 20-30 proper forum posts in order to avoid any problems at all. Otherwise, many "bot-like" players may appear in order to feed true BL/CL players and I have serious reasons to be suspicious towards specific CL participants.

No. He's leading CL, he constantly reasons for new players to be able to join CL more easily, and he made a small mistake regarding this topic on this very page. Only natural for people to assume Blarp was meant, and thus only natural for him to automatically defend himself.

Accusations like this should either be done with proof or not at all.

Well, I'm out of this portion of the S&F conversation - I have nothing nice to say, so I'll leave it at this: ARTH and blarp have good points here.

(Edit:  Hmmmm, ok, I do have one suggestion:  an either/or League requirement... either have forum non-spam posts OR a certain score?)

I hope you dont mean me :(

Anyway I dont like that idea for what I think is a good reason:
It reduces the number of new serious community members. While I have no doubt that there are certain individuals that don't particularily like me, I doubt anyone really believes that the elements community would be a better place without me. Active players are something that the forum needs to survive. In my case, it was leagues that first motivated me to really become a member of the community. Before my first 20-30 posts.

Leagues are smart in that they encourage activity. You never know which first poster will become the next Cheesy or something.

That's also why I believe league rewards should be increased. There shouldnt be any reason why a player wouldn't join leagues. And if more rewards increase participation, then good. I think leagues should really be more important than war, as it forms connections between the whole community new and old. Also a disadvantage of splitting it into two leagues, CL players dont form connections with BL players in the same way.

This is also a good arguement I think for the return of two month seasons. If it was two months, you wouldnt have to increase rewards, encourage more activity, and not discourage new players from joining due to length of commitment or inability to catch up. The 30 match minimum could easily be reduced to adjust for the shorter time.

In summary: leagues build the community, leagues form friendships, 3 marks for 2 months>2 marks for 3 months, shorten league time/commitment.

Maybe make a special reward for best new league member and have a vote for most improved/most creative decks/best sportsmanship, etc...

You take it too personal, dear Blarp, without even meaning you.
With all respect, according to your opinion we should also increase the rewards on Weekly Tournies to 2 Marks/Nymphs per 1st & 2nd place, which in advance would make the increase of other PvP Event rewards, which in the advance would cause the rewards of non-PvP competitions to be increased too, leading to a non-stop cycle of increasing rewards and leading to every single winner getting something like 10 Marks & 10 Nymphs per winner.
This is bad for 3 reasons:
1) Bigger the rewards, bigger the gap between winners & losers. We don't want a couple of people to end with tons of ultra rares while normal ETGers have just a few Nymphs spinned from the Oracle, do we?
2) Rewards shouldn't be the goal of participating in an event. Education, entertainment, friendship and having fun, that's the reasons behind participation to ETG community, not just a greed for more/bigger rewards.
3) As far as I know, the amount of reward codes is limited. There were times where the competition organizers hadn't any reward codes left, causing problems with Weekly Tourny winners. Though I have no idea of what the source of that problem may was, it makes obvious you can't just bribe players with new rewards just because you want it.

As for people joining Leagues with 0 posts, if we keep this way of thinking we should better be banning the 20-30 post limit to Weekly Tournies too. And there is a reasoning for needing 20-30 serious community posts for this; it helps Weekly Tournaments running smoothier avoiding trolls and bots. A bot/troll/completetly noob can't make 20-30 serious posts, and if their posts aren't serious/important enough, the admins are going to delete them, preventing them from participating.

Now, let's go to CL. I pay a monthly fee to my local internet cafe which allows me to open and use any free computer on that internet cafe. So, I open a free computer with my ARTHANASIOS account, I create new elements accounts with every free computer in the internet cafe (the IP is different on each computer, so I don't break any rules), I name each account "Sam","Tam","Tim","Tom" etc. which appear on chat as my Greek friends who I supposely have convienced to join CL to "have fun", I just farm for 20,000 score with each account (not a difficult task) or even provide well-photoshoped screenshots of each account having at least 20,000 score, I beat the crap of every non-ARTHANASIOS account (I play all the accounts) with 2-0, 2-1 or whatever, I repeat day after day until I have something like 85% of wins (100% is too obvious cheating, so I purposely "lose" a few games) and take 1st place in the next 10+ CLs.
Despite of the exaggeration of the above example, I think every sane ETG understands the easily abused loophole and a 20-30 forum post minium prevents it or makes it much-much more difficult to happen. Hope I was clear...

I see only one or two argument/s for the 20 or 30 post idea: Ppl already have an account and they are at least a bit familiar to the forum/community.
I would prefer to increase the score minimum. I think 20k is a bit too newbish for CL. You won't have any chance to reach top 6. They most low-score player make one or two duels giving many BL/CLer "free points". I don't like that.

One more thing: I always said the leagues and especially the community need a better advertisement on the in-game screen. To be honest, I didn't know about the community for a long long time, actually I played ~two years without knowing about it or it least it was a bit too extraneous for me. What I want to say is that we need something in-game to attract people for joining the community/PvP events. Letting them know there are competitions/tourneys/leagues/events with rewards we would be a bigger community. I don't know how often ppl weren asking in chat for duels or were asking "what is BL?" and after a short explanation they join it. I was one them and I am sure there are many other people outside who are love it to pvp like me. Actually Zanz is the only one who can do this and I hope this will be one day part of a patch list.

Intriguing idea!

As a Social Network Manager, I work to bring in people who haven't yet discovered the game. It's something we need, yet, as you observe, we have untapped potential within our ranks. We just haven't met them yet.

While it's obvious that in-game ads need to be highly visible, it seems equally clear that they should avoid getting in the way. Some won't be interested, and even the interested ones don't want stuff getting in the way while grinding.

It may be possible to put some sort of banner (or something) across the top of the menu screen, for example. One consideration there is screen size. My desktop has a large monitor, but the game fills almost all of the screen on my laptop. The point is, such an idea would require careful planning to make sure it stays close enough to be effective, yet still not interfere with gameplay.

Yes I've suggested we need to include links and info on the community in game in the past. Still believe this should be the case.

And not taking anything personally art, you just inspired me to write stuff :P

And while yes, it wouldn't be too difficult to cheat yourself wins at CL, this hasn't been a serious problem yet I don't think. If this does become a problem, then we'll do something about it. You want to make changes to solve actual problems rather than hypothetical ones.

And about increasing the rewards for weekly tournaments, I'm against that. The people that play in weekly tournaments will not be significantly increased by greater rewards, the same people will continue to always play and win, and then rewards for other events would be really undervalued like you said.

If we have a limited number of codes, I say stop using all of them for weekly tournaments that basically include the same 10-20 players throughout the majority of the year. The reason you join leagues is for the rewards, the reason you stay in leagues and continue in the community is the friendships like you said. tournaments are not so much a friendship building exercise as you join chat for a few hours and then can leave, with leagues you have to stay in chat quite a lot to play your matches. And as such shouldn't have there rewards increased. I'm surprised 2nd place in tournaments even gets a mark/nymph.

LO NOTE:

Are sakibman and godmatrix the same person? It's my understanding that that is the case in chat, and if so their scores should be combined/readjusted to reflect that.

Seriously?  You should be able to get this on your own, blarp!  ;)

Sakibman = in-game name of "godmatrix" (forum name).  That is quite common for in-game names to differ from forum account nicknames.

I know. But sakibman and godmatrix both have their own positions in the league.  Someone just failed when submitting their win, as I'm not 100% sure my post sounds more like a question than a statement.

*snip*

This is called sockpuppetting. Please :
a) do not talk about it
b) know that it has happenned, we have experience, and there's nothing sweeter than the smell of burning sockpuppets in the morning (also, if that burns the forum rules apply and you're banned from any organized pvp).

Just to clear things up ;)
