The only way I can think of to make that happen is to merge both leagues and have players agree to play either non-upgraded or upgraded duels, or to allow players to participate in both leagues. It does seem quite silly having just 12 players in CL.

To avoid the following scenario :
Player A and player B meet up, have ten matches, then are finished for the season between each other in two days top. Why is that bad? It stops any metagame construction that could have come from Player A and player B playing others in between.

i agree. this is my first post in this forums and i love the BL idea. but the 24hours rule is silly. you could avoid abuse if you think there would be one by doing it 1 / day or something. cause the time zones in this game rly varry. for example i havent seen the 80% of players listed there ever online. so my oppenents range is rly limited and with 24hours you limit it more.

That only brings up the "how much margin of error is OK?" discussion, which is just a semantics battle that isn't worth fighting over.

"Once a day" fails due to the existence of time zones. What might constitute "one day" may not be the same for everyone. What I mean by this is that if I define "one day" as "from 12AM to 12 AM the next day in my time zone," that might not be the same for everyone else.

We could use server time, and add some kind of timer/counter on BL front page that resets each day. Of course, you could play a match a minute before server time resets and then play another one right away, but is there really a trouble with that?

I can understand the points of view about the 24 hour thing.  I had one match invalidated this season because I played against the same opponent twice in two days, but didn't pay attention to the times, and the matches were about 23 hours apart.  It seems a little silly to have to wait in a scenario like that, but we do need a well-defined rule, rather than 'about every 24 hours'.  Perhaps use a 12 hour rule, so that people don't get stuck having to wait until a later time than the day before to play somebody.  (i.e. if you played the same player every day, you'd have to play at a later and later time every day, or else skip at least 1 day, assuming you're logging in at the same time every day)  Alternately, just scrap the 24h rule entirely, which isn't really needed given that there is a 10 match per person per season cap anyway.  (and the season cap should definitely not be done away with, as it prevents 'farming' weaker players and ignoring better ones)

I am curious, what is the 24 hour rule supposed to accomplish?  I assume there's a good reason for it, or it wouldn't exist; I just can't think of what it might be right now.

Here are two suggestions:

20 hour rule instead of 24. This way, players can play at roughly the same time each day.

X+1 Games per X days. Over the span of 1 day, you could play each other twice. Over two days, you could play each other three times. This also allows people to play once a day for 10 days even if the games are not in the same 24 hours.

Championship League really needs to open up.  I've been in chat pretty much every day looking for matches, and nobody from CL is ever there :p  I think I've only had two matches in the last week, and been on every night in that time.  It's not that I'm in a bad time zone; there's like one match a day in that time frame for the entire league.  I don't think anybody is going to reach their true rating, and CL is just going to be a contest of who plays the most matches.

edit: I'm pretty much done with league.  I'm tired of trying to find matches every day and either finding nobody on in chat, or else having those in chat be unwilling to play.  (thought there was a rule against that, but whatever)  Once events are built in to the actual game by zanz, I'll possibly be back, but I'm tired of screwing around trying to find matchups and missing all the 3am tourneys and the like :p  Not to mention the metagame is pretty stale; I'll be looking forward to Zanzarino's future updates :)  Thanks all for the games!  I just wish there had been more of them!
