Achievement Unlocked - Rules
Original idea by: bogtro   |   Developed by: bogtro   |   Art by: ?   |   Organized by: ?

Collect all 50 achievements by winning with the correct decks

1. HOW TO SIGN UP?
Anyone with a forum and a chat account can sign up for this event. Start by reading the rules very carefully. Then sign up by posting on a separate sign up topic. If you cannot find a sign up topic, or if it is locked, this event is not currently active, and you will have to wait for it to restart.

2. GETTING READY
Build decks of any size (from 30 to 60 cards)
-You may use 1 upgraded card for each achievement you have unlocked
-All cards in the game, including rares, shards, marks, and nymphs are allowed. Some achievements may implicitly require the former two but the latter two will never be required.

3. GAMEPLAY
An achievement relates to the deck or cards you use. The names of the 50 achievements will be revealed at the start of the event, but the criteria for achieving them will not. The goal is to collect all 50 achievements.

Only winning decks will be considered for achievements. All cards will be treated as unupgraded for the purposes of achievements (unless the achievement specifically requires otherwise).

A sample achievement is:

Code: [Select]
Mispelled (Win with a deck that does not contain any spells)
The number of achievements collected will be public information to all players, but they will not know which achievements were collected (besides their own). They will receive by PM all the achievements they have collected with their descriptions. Because it is impossible to enforce otherwise and to increase the chances of getting achivements, it is allowed to collude with other players.

The winner of a match will receive a PM containing the description of 3 random achievements that they have not already gotten.

4. DUELS
Pairings will be made based on current number of achievements, unless this would result in playing the same opponent multiple times. They will be in the format 1v3, 2v4, 5v7, 6v8, etc. with byes assigned if there are an odd number of players.

Players have 4 days to make the fight happen. They must contact their opponent using a PM, and try to find a time that suits both. If the fight doesn't happen, both players lose by default, unless one player is clearly more active in trying to find a suitable time. Event organizer will determine who the most active player was, and his or her word is final.

If a match does not occur due to:
Both players inactive: neither player sends any decks
One player clearly more active (or a bye): The more active player sends any 3 decks, treated as winning decks and eligible for achievements.
Both players equally active: Both players send any 2 decks, treated as winning decks and eligible for achievements.

A player ruled to be inactive will not be paired for subsequent rounds until they specifically contact the organizer to be put back into the event. This will hopefully avoid players being inactive for most of the event resulting in a large number of walkover wins, which are significantly more difficult to balance in this event than in others.

Matches are 5 games, even if a player reaches 3 games before the end of the match. Decks must be PMed to the organizer immediately after the match.

It's a good idea to either record the matches, or take screenshots as proof, in case something weird, like a desync error, happens. Remember, a player who gets caught cheating, will be permanently banned from all Elements community PvP events, so please play fair. Note that no achievements will require screenshots.

5. AFTER DUELS
Winner should send their decks to the organizer immediately after the match. Both the winner and the loser are required to send the decks they used. Winning decks will be checked for achievements.

6. WINNER
The first player to collect all 50 achievements, or the player with the most achievements after 10 rounds, is the winner. In case of a tie or multiple players collecting all achievements in the same round, the player with the most matches won wins the event. If a tie still remains, the player with the most games won wins the event. If a tie still remains, a tiebreaker match will be played.

Following the conclusion of the event, the list of achievements with their criteria will be publicly available.

7. REWARDS
The winner of the event will receive the following forum award icon: TBD

Possible changes:
PM decks instead of post to avoid players knowing which decks may get achivements.
Walkover win/bye gets only 3 free decks.
Possible issues:
People using troll decks when effectively out (resolved by pairing system)
People using OP decks without regard to achievements once taking an early lead (resolved by pairing system)

The idea is intriguing but I struggle to come up with more than 15-20 achievements:
  • EM
  • rush ttw<9-10
  • stall ttw >20
  • domin use 6CC, possible to proove?
  • win with less than 20 hp
  • no spells
  • no perms
  • no shields
  • no weaps
  • creatureless
  • no pillar/pendulums
  • creature heavy >10
  • vanilla
  • weap only
  • creature only
  • nymphs/nt only
  • shardless
  • full board=23 creaturess
  • full perm slots, too hard?

Suppose you can get more with stuff like: creatures with =<2 atk, =<3atm, =<4atk, HP, card costs etc

With achievements like the ones I came up with not only the deck but SS and some luck is needed and in this case you need to know what to SS or aim for...

How probable do you think it is that someone will be able to get all 50 by 10 rounds? What's the most achievements you can get with one deck? This looks like it could be fun enough to stick around for.
It is the greatest mystery of all...

The achievements will be difficult enough that there isn't a very high chance that all of them are completed at the end of 10 rounds. The clues get progressively more vague/difficult. Note that collusion is possible, as well as getting the descriptions through match wins, making it definitely possible.

There isn't a set limit on how many achievements you can get with one deck, but many of the achievements are mutually exclusive.

@AnnaMall: I don't have a full list yet. For obvious reasons I won't disclose the current ones. However, all relate to only the deck used in clever ways. Otherwise the organizer would have to ask participants to take screenshots of basically every turn, which isn't really reasonable.

I don't think thinking of 50 achievements will be too hard.

I like this very much and would definetly be in.

More feedback would be nice.

Is bye/walkover advantage too much?
Is 50 achievements too much/little for 10 rounds?
Would you play in this event?

Organizer strain will be high (checking each deck against 50 achievements). Would anyone other than me run it?

The screenshot stage of the Thriatlon (that seems to be dead atm) could be a source of inspiration for achievements. Some of these however are only possible tweaking the deck the AI uses in the trainer and others require a lucky draw.
