Think of it this way - I'm the Head master and someone else is the prefect. For this example the spells will be in game cards. Your deck consists of 0 cards. I'd give you some and the prefect would give you some more - though less than what I gave you. Now you have X number of cards to use.

Now switch cards back to spells - the spells are like extra cards you can use without a card image.

I really dig the Harry Potter theme and would be sad if it went away, but the event concept still works as a team tournament with defined roles and special powers.

It'll also be interesting to see how things work with the Heads of House, since it seems like they have a lot of responsibility within the event.

Sort of. The Head of the House doesn't give out spells. He picks some for himself. The Prefects pick Spells from the spell list and then give them to whomever he/she wishes in their House.

I'm positive I can revamp the idea to move away from HP, but that obviously means the event itself will have changed some. Combining the two, adding Elements things to HP sounds pretty hard to me, actually. Hp is such a sturdy and concrete thing that adding anything to it almost breaks it. Like stuffing even more into something that is already full. The closest I think I could do is to create a Harry Potter knock off. Something that sounds extremely similar to HP, but is actually completely Elements related. Such as: The Sorting Hat is now Schrodinger's Cat, the strange Cat who knows where you are and aren't, and places you accordingly.

What I was trying to say was that you shouldn't revamp it. If the theme is Harry Potter, then the event should be about Harry Potter.

I highlighted the correct one in yellow. On the first post, you will see a list of spells. Every House can use those spells. They are not House-specific. But no one can use any spell unless it is given to them by a Prefect. A Prefect will choose a certain number of spells, and then hand them out amongst the members of the House. Those who now were given spells may use them. Only those given spells may use those spells.

As for choosing your House and what role you will play, it's all by first come first serve. You pick which house you want to be in, and then you select the role you want(Prefect, Student). The Head of the House is a special case. If an element Master joins a House, they have the choice of becoming the Head of the House first. If they don't want it, any other Master may get it if they join the specific House if they want. If no Master wants the position, anyone else(probably with certain requirements) may take the position. It's not fully decided 100% how it all will work yet.

How does someone else know that a Prefect gave you a spell or not? I think the only way that would work is if only 1 person could use that spell and that is it..

This is a 7 round event is seems, with 3 days per round.  Are the spells and such handed out before the matchups are determined or after?  Is there an extra "setup" phase for that stuff?

With each House having 13 members, it'll be impossible to award an icon to all of them.  Will the icon go to the Head of House or is there some other system for determining the winner?

On a personal note, I'd prefer that there just be a single icon for the event instead of 4 separate ones.  The shrunken House crests I don't think really look all that clear as icons.  They seem squashed and unappealing.  Maybe instead of 4 separate icons we could just have 1 single icon to represent the House Cup that everyone is competing for.  Or maybe instead something that symbolizes the Harry Potter genre like a miniature Sorting Hat or a magic wand or something.

A couple questions.....

The length and length of each round is easily up for debate. It's still not 100% finalized. But the spells are handed out before matchups are determined. They are one of the first things done. It happens the same time deckbuilding is going on.

The award icon was just a fun little idea. It in no way has to be done.

As you might have noticed, those icons I put aren't the actual icons. They were just a super scaled down version that I in no way intended to be the actual icons. I just didn't feel like creating icon sized versions of them in the moment. The House Cup icon idea crossed my mind, as did over harry potter type of things. The House Crests just seemed more personal, almost, something that'd represent specifically your win and the house you helped make win. But like I said, it's entirely optional and was just a fun little idea.

Hm... the Award Icon would be kind of hard.  Make it to show you won and also to show what House you were in.

Maybe the House Cup or the Tri-Wizard Cup that had the colors of your house. So people could tell over the years this Competition takes place. Which house won and what year or which competition. (For Example: The Info when you hover over it will say: 2nd HPPvP event. and maybe add Sept. 2011, Gryfindor) Like the others do. (Probably already thought of that, but just throwing idea's out there.) 

love the competition. I am going to re read the rules a few more times and see if I get a better understanding of it.
