Hmm.  What about spinning off the Life concept into creature generation, such as  :life :life: Spawn a 2/2 creature (to be named later)? Yes, Horned Frog is 2 :life to create a 3/3, but the savings on card space plus other factors should be a good balance.  Actually, maybe the unupped could spawn a 1/1 for  :life as well.

True.  There is the fact though that with any kind of ability, it won't stack in a single slot, meaning players might have to worry about permanent spaces.  Is that, Solid, and the fact that you have to pay quanta to bring it out enough to balance it, or does it actually need that extra  :life  for cost?

I was afraid of that; cost has been changed.  It does mean that unlike the previous version, the owner will have to have an outside source of  :life in order to use every turn.

I also shortened the text from "May not be made immaterial" to "Solid"...not because it couldn't fit, but to use in other cards where text space may be a premium.

Agreed, keep current idea.  I'd suggest making it free to deploy but make it 2 :entropy to generate.  For a card that can generate a pillar every turn, it's a fair price to pay for saving some card space.

I went ahead and changed the mechanic of the unupped version and changed the upped to compensate.  Beartrap deserves to be judged on its own merits; my apologies, I didn't see that one in the recent archives when I was making this one up. 

And Poison Trap isn't immaterial exactly, it just can't be stolen...mostly because I'd think it would be freakin' hard to uninstall one and reinstall it in something else.  Mostly, though, it's a balance for the fact that it's a card that does nothing if the other player doesn't target your permanent. (Edit: And since this is a  :darkness card, protection for the owner from taking damage from using his own steals.)

I'll try and draw up something for art before it goes up, then.  How hard can it be to draw a needle with a blob of liquid on the end anyway?

2nd change.  Increased cost for both from 4 :earth to 5 :earth; I also removed the ability for ranged weapons to be blocked.  Thoughts before it goes up for Crucible?
