I've seen too many 40 card decks to count, and not a single 39 card deck. While sometimes, a 40 card deck is the best way to maximize the efficiency of card ratios in the deck, I feel like this is not always the case. I think many of the 40 card decks are their size due to visual appeal, and not to maximize efficiency. It actually annoys me a lot how I see so many 40 card decks.
Somehow still around, somewhat

Yea when making a stall deck I never really now how to balance quanta and cards, I just kinda through things together till it looks decent. I would be interested if someone had a way of making stalls more efficient.  or at least find the right blend of quanta dispersal and deck size. 40 just seems like such a nice number :P

It really depends on the type of stall.
More damage leaning stalls like Firestall I tend to keep a lower deck count. But playing stalls like the immortal, I usually go higher than 40, around 42.
You're just as selfish as I am. You're just not as good at it yet.

31  cards is stall enough for me :P
On a serious note, around 40 seems to be the optimal number. any more than that is only consistent with persistent card drawing i.e. hourglasses.
The other option for a fatter stall is that the deck must be modular (more cards fill the same niche, for example dusk and turtle shield) since you cannot expect to reliably draw any card if your deck is bigger than ~40, so your strategy kinda falls apart.

what I often aim for with my stalls (if quanta allows) is to make it as small as possible and include a sole eternity(PA!) and a photon.

But then again, most stalls I design doesn't aim for winnig by deckout; but by winning in an uncounterable way. So it's natural that I design them as thin as possible, since they are basically a 'rushdeck' that gives up its early game for inevitalbility.

If I pack an offensive out in the deck (ie, firestall) I traditionally go with around 34 or 35 cards. If I need more slots for removal, or if decking out is my main method of winning, then 40+ is used more often. I rarely use 60, but I will often if I am afraid the other person is playing a potentially disastrous stall.

I play 41-43 cards deckers most of the time. I played a 46 cards one once since I knew the other one was going to have a stall with 45 cards in it. Heh.

60 cards, just beacuse I can ;)
Seriously, 35-44 is good, usually 38-40 for me, otherwise it's too fat.

In PvP 1 you probably wanna go with 60 if you plan on decking anyone out ::)
Or, pack eternity.

my stall decks are anywhere between 30 (yes, 30 card stalls exist) and 60 cards.
