Increased pvp rare-farming https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=37177.msg466562#msg466562

I'm not sure that this is the right place to start this topic or if a similar thread was already started somewhere else, but I haven't seen anything and "troubleshooting" didn't necessarily seem more appropriate to me, so I hope I'm not just warming up a long debated subject.

I almost exclusively play on Kongregate, and I noticed a huge increase in pvp farming recently. Especially since the latest update, farming seems to have become the main occupation of most new players (to the point where it gets difficult to find someone to just do fun pvp) and more often than not, I find myself vs-ing a farm rather than a real (desired) opponent when I roam through pvp2.

The result is that all rares that can usually only be spun are now easily available to anyone, without even the slightest effort, requiring no commitment to the game whatsoever.

I don't mind helping new players, I often assist them with building decks or tweaking their existing ones, but I think this frenetic farming only gives an advantage to those who cheat over those who play, and I believe this should/could be avoided.

The solution I am suggesting - it's not my idea but the best I've heard so far - is to remove the spins from pvp matches, making rares accessible only through the arena and regular AI, where one at least has to put up a fight, no matter the level.

This loss of incentive for pvp matches could be compensated through higher electrum rewards.

Is that in any way to be envisaged?

I do not get how rares have become easy to obtain without the slightest effort. You still have to farm them. Sure it makes it easier, but I don't think how you can think of rare farms as "cheating". Farming rares, especially 6 copies of each would take time and commitment. It is not strictly illegal. Also, it would make sense for new players to want to farm. The gap between newbie and expereinced is very very wide already with one being incredibly restricted without money, upped cards, and rares.

But I do agree that farming harms PvP2 by making people vs farms instead of real games. I just don't like you making such a villan out of farmers. The obvious solution would be to repalce all shards and weapons with relics in pvp games, not omit them entirely.

I don't really feel I made a "villan" out of the farmer, I understand it's tempting and considering the age group playing, anything else would be a surprise, and even though I express my dislike of farming in chat, I don't harrass people who do so.

I really don't think farming takes time and commitment, entering pvp2 is generally enough to get the farm, so please, when I see people farming 5 rares in 30 minutes through beating non-biting farms, I call it effortless, and the fact that it's not "strictly illegal" doesn't make it right.

Replacing the rares with Relics in pvp would actually be a good idea, maybe easier to instore than the complete suppression of spins.

It's not illegal but it's still cheating. It's basically equivalent to them hacking the game to get stuff. I even see some forum members around here trying to farm off each other which is really sad.

Really I think you should villanize farmers. They detract meaning from legit player achievements. It's also really annoying trying to pvp people and running into a bunch of farms.

It's sad really... I enjoy (and have enjoyed) learning and playing the game.

I once asked my nephew why he always bought the "cheat book" to every game he ever played. He said that he wanted to win... I told him that I never bought any cheat books and always won every game I ever played, it just took me a little longer.
I had a better experience, and still had $19.95 in my pocket for the next game... ;)

I'm not attempting to defend those who use farms, but some think that the real "fun" of the game is in PvP, not grinding, and that grinding only detracts from the fun of pvp and forum events.

Ok firstly, if something is not illegal, it is most definitely NOT cheating. The definition of cheating is doing something against the rules. So if it is not against the rules, i.e. if it is not illegal, then it is not cheating. There is also a significant different between hacking and deliberatly breaking down the game mechanics and working withing the game mechanics in an unintended way.

Perhaps it does make owning many rares meaningless if it is so easy to obtain. But if shards and weapons really are that important, Zanz would do what he did with nymphs and make them completely unobtainable from spins.

People reserve the rights to farm rares in pvp if they want.

I, however, reserve the right to laugh mercilessly at the pathetic play skill of those who need to resort to such a thing to obtain them.

About pvp farming : http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,32406.0.html

I also know how to make a farm with a 100% win rate of a certain rare (ie you win 3, and win on turn 1 or 2). Talk about effort.
