The SG is dead, long live the SG!
I do not think any sort of petition to replace SG has any validity because these are SG's forums. We're all lucky SG has put so much work into them and people quickly forget when they aren't getting the instant gratification they think they're entitled to.
What exactly are we waiting on SG for? We've done Trials before, they could easily be started up again. Do we need a new Trial Master? If so that is what the council is for.
If there are issues that absolutely require Admin attention then make a list of them so it is easy on SG to quickly solve them.
The problem is that we seem to be unwilling to do anything without SG's approval. Kevkev has been reluctant to start Trials because SG is not back, and he's not sure whether she wants to keep him as Trial Overseer.
As you mentioned, though, SG isn't the person who usually decides on staff positions; the Council does that. The Council's powers are limited when SG is away though, as her powers are needed for many of our decisions (including hiring staff members).
The only way I can see your suggestion working is if SG gives someone the Administrator position, but not access to the database/FTP client. This way, the new Admin could create boards and assign member titles, but SG would still retain complete control, even if the new Admin goes crazy and removes SG as Admin.
Even so, I don't think SG is willing to appoint a new Admin at all. I'm not sure another one is entirely necessary yet either. The community is still fairly small, and one Admin is still enough. Besides, SG should be back soon; she is currently only on holiday. She doesn't want to spend her time away from real-life work doing Admin work, which is understandable. We should respect that, and be grateful for the time she does spend with us (even on holiday, she still logs into the forum nearly every day).
