Making Some Existing Common Cards Rare https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=41817.msg518898#msg518898

I don't really have too many suggestions, but I wanted to know if some people had cards in mind that are currently not rare, but have such potential, however balanced.  For example, Phoenix has several things about it, it is resistant against CC, something most probably though would never happen before it was added.  It makes it an excellent host for Immolation, and if the owner has them or some CC, it could remove any adverse effects (Antimatter, Freeze) and get it back next turn.  To me, it doesn't need a nerf for this potential, but some regard to it is possibly being a rare card.
Rule #1: The Captain is never wrong.  Rule #2: If the Captain is wrong, refer to Rule #1.

:light has more rares than others. I would suggest add in rares for other elements. if taken out some of the cards to be rare, it would be unfair to the other elements as the cards don't seem to be of special effect......Pandemonium for example.

Okay, so this card is available from bazaar to us but not to newer players. Which means more grinding (for newer players. For us, we can always buy 12 before it was turned rare, which in turn has no effect on us, but making the grinding for newbs heavier.).
Why not adding an entirely new rare instead of turning certain card rare?

i totally agree with this. As one of the players that have obtained 12cards per rare with nymphs being exception, yes, the idea of turning some cards into rares are overwhelming but in consideration to new players .......http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,41813.msg518905.html#msg518905
Well, i know how it feels as i have just joined elements too ( less than a year). So, adding rares is a better option than just burden the new players.

1) the current rares will not affect any players even if they don't own 1... i was wrong in mentioning  :light has more... :water
2) the current cards are, i would put.... essential in decks, unless you wanna put skeletons :death as rare...the unused (for me at least)

In general it is better to add a rare than to add a rare by subtracting a common. (1R > 1R-1C)

Rarity is unrelated to balance.

Certain existing common cards would have been better rares than certain existing rares.
A rare card should be useful with 1,2,3,4,5 or 6 copies in a deck.
A rare card should not define a genre of decks.
[Cards can be useful with a single copy without defining a genre of decks.]
A rare card must be balanced.
A rare card should have a moderate to large impact on a match. (Thus have a moderate to high cost)

I agree with this 100%.  However, playing devil's advocate, I've heard that nymphs were buyable long, long ago, so it's been done before.

I don't remember it, but I do remember someone in chat who had 12 light nymphs telling me that.  I also saw it discussed in a wiki article that evidently hadn't been updated in quite some time.

That might have been in the trainer. I do not remember them ever being in the official bazaar.
