It's still possible that the plugging can smash the glass without being an escape tool.

Nothing new yet, eh? Well I have another theory building upon my last:
The shower door had a loose screw (or any piece of it), which the DI removed and used to cut in the glass doors, carving out a hole in it. The DI then stretched his arm through the hole, grabbed something to break the glass with, and broke the glass with it. This was also used to kill the woman

The bathroom was empty apart from the seals you used and the DI  when you first left it.

The DI took whatever you had used as door seal and smashed the door with it

The client came to get the ring while you were gone, and out of boredom, started to score the glass with the ring. By accident, she cut a small hole in the glass and dropped the ring in the shower. The DI took the ring and broke the glass with it. An unrelated woman was shocked by the sound of broken glass and had a heart attack. This woman was the one you saw dead.

You didn't realize it, but the shower was mistakenly set at a drip. The DI took the taps you broke off, turned the water to low flow, and returned the taps you used to maintain the rumour about him being a witch.

The client never enters the house.

The water pressure remained constant.

The taps were never replaced.

The DI mopped up the water with the towels in the room, removing the water that had accumulated.

The bathroom was empty apart from the seals you used and the DI  when you first left it.

So no towels! To be specific:
The water was not mopped up.

Your definition of an empty shower obviously implies a number of possible exceptions, such as the air or shower head/plugging etc.
Thus it is possible that an escape tool that did not violate your definition of "empty" existed within the shower at the moment immediately after I sealed it.
The DI used this escape tool to smash the glass and escape the shower.

Or alternately, I request a limiting definition of possible escape tools.

I may have missed something, but I do not see how that denied my "using the door seal to break the door"-theory.

You mistakenly set the shower to a drip. The DI took a wrench from another room and turned the water to low flow before going for good.

Alternatively, the DI took his escape tool and used it to lever the plugging up- not to remove it, but to let the water drain before escaping from the shower.

There was a mine buried under the house. The DI set the mine off, and it broke the glass.
There were two layers of tiles on one of the walls. The DI took the outside layer of tiles from the wall and used it to break the glass.



It's an abandoned house. What did you expect?

Apparently she logs in daily but...

The water came out but much slower than you had intended. Upon leaving the building, you somehow managed to accidentally shoot or smash the glass door without noticing. The DI climbed out, found a replacement door somewhere and then replaced the smashed door from the inside, taking some kind of escape tool with him. He then used the escape tool to break the glass. The DI left a puddle in the ring room, which the woman slipped on, had a heart attack then landed on the puddle so her clothes could soak it up.
