more regulations suggestions:

quality control- have a board of veteran members prior to the inclusion of a card into level 1 to vote for/against the inclusion of the card in the polls, just because an idea is generated does not mean it is worth one of the 18 slots in that month's poll, and chop out a preexisting card that didn't have many votes that particular month.  it could be either lenient (require several no's) or strict (need many yes').  the aim of qc is to allow the cream to stay in even if it hasnt rizen to the top yet, instead of letting more filler in and push the un-risen cream out, basically let the good cards stay in so zanz can more easily find them.

voting wear- whichever voting system is put in place cannot take much longer than the current system to place the votes each month for each poll.  so while a point system for various categories for each card may be the best way to score cards, it could easily lead to voting being a tedious process.  one system that may be a decent intermediate would be to have a ranking system, which would require a locking of entries at the beginning of each month, and rank the cards from 1-18 (1 worst, 18 best or vice versa) and have the designated card of that month pass through.

well its been a while and there doesnt appear to be much (any?) movement on this.  the polls seem to routinely go far beyond their expiration dates, maybe it would be best just to formally extend the time of the polls to 2-4 months apiece?

I don't think 2-4 months would help the voting much at all. People will probably just forget about ideas and they sit there in the polls, without reminders of new ones being put in. Well, that thought is more directed at 4 months.

As far as I know, the polls are as they are because of the curators being in War, but I think that if they really wanted to they could keep up the old usual schedule.

i agree its not a good thing, but its turned into being more often than not that level 1 and 2 end up being concluded for weeks, if not months, before being given attention, so its essentially the law of the land.  i get that its a tedious, thankless job, but its a volunteer position.  if they just wanted the colored name and a fancy title, that would be the wrong reason to volunteer.  if all of the curators posts were in war related topics, i may buy that they dont have the free time to curate, but when there are posts elsewhere, it more seems to lend itself to a lack of want-to.

Well, not just War.  I've gotten a rather hectic schedule this semester while Annele has just finished moving, so aside from War, our times are rather restricted.  In my case particularly, I find myself in opportunities where I can only post as opposed to organizing and moving threads, so despite having time and will to Curate while having Forum access, I cannot for the time being.

And yeah, we're slightly behind, but some of the strain is alleviated by the double move last cycle.  However, we are trying to rein the schedule back to its regular weekly system and that will take some time while we flesh out some time while War does hold a greater part of our attention for the time being.

It's a fair assumption.  I do have the free time, but not with a medium that allows me to curate properly at the time.  With the half the programs, labs, and stuff I need to take care of this semester, my laptop can barely run properly, much less open so many tabs that curating requires of me, so I can't really curate until I get on my desktop at home.  That leaves me with doing half my stuff on my DS.  It's amazing how much of the table code you can memorize after enough times...

Having been a Curator myself I know that you need a good chunk of time (~2 hours) to make a complete move correctly, and doing one move at a time just because it fits in your schedule just invites problems, especially with how detail-oriented each move is.

Starting a level 0 thread does not need nearly as much time as a Submission move.


Let the Curators take a breather, and let's do our part and take a pause on submitting ideas into that thread. We're a community based on the diligent volunteering of others, but we all have lives and the capability for understanding that.

like i said, if the curators need more time, make formal changes to the timing of the operations- figure out a new system that both makes sense and is more manageable.  the system is past due for an overhaul anyway.
