Elves are supposedly powerful beings, so the easiest fix for this card being somewhat "useless" is to increase its attack. I'd probably go as far as to make it 7 or 8, since life doesn't really have any creatures at that strength. Its cost should be 6 or 7. Immortal has 6 attack and costs 7
, but is always immortal. This card relies on empathic bond and has life's bonus of lowered cost.
I like the idea of camouflage. (By the way, it's spelled camouflage and should probably be fixed in the card text.) Even if empathic bond doesn't really fit the theme, it's the only permanent life has other than pillars, weapons, and shields. It might actually be a bit too powerful with increased attack, as it is still targetable by its owner and therefore can be buffed. At 8 attack, it makes a nice synergy with adrenaline, without going off-element. The cost might have to be a bit higher. However, if its health stays at 2, that should help balance things.
For darkness, you could try a dark elf or night elf. This card might then be renamed as wood elf. There are also high elves for light.
