I hate to double post but I believe this merits the notice.

As we are finished our Propaganda page (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,13218.0.html) and SG just needs to work magic on the song, I'd say we have our 12 cards. Therefore, we have an assured:

434 cards + 12 cards
to a grand total of:

446 cards

Now, here comes the hypothetical part.

If we do indeed win the "Best Propaganda Page" vote, then we will be given not just 12 cards but 24, bringing us up to a nice 458 cards and if we come in second place, to 452 cards. So:
    First place brings us up to:

    RE: filler cards

    Everything below the first 12 cards (4 purify, 4 holy light, 4 wings) seem like no-brainers to me (with one exception below). Wings i think is a good call, too, because we could lose an entire half of a deck (and we will, past round 1) and we could plug Wings into it, change mark to air, and have a working stall with pendulums. I think that is a great move.

    Purify and holy light both seem too situational for me. I can see how they would have greatly increased utility when you know what color half your opponent's deck will be, but I still think they are too weak. Having near useless cards in your deck because your opponent doesn't poison could be fatal. And for holy light, well, it's a decent card, I just don't see us not having a better option.

    At the same time, Rage Potions are great, but none of our decks really rely on them. They are one of the first cards I would have thought to stock up on, but as I look over our decks, I think we can do better.

    So I propose:

    -4 purify
    -4 holy light
    -3 rage potion (for a total of 3 filler ragepots)
    -1 dragon

    +4 chaos seed, which give the entropy deck a little survivability (with the cards we have, a first round loss would be rough. second round loss, it's definitely done.) with a few extra chaos seeds, it could at least survive beyond a loss, and i think at a later point in the war, it will be an even stronger deck. its extremely versatile and i think one of the hardest decks we have to counter. ascabi did a great job on it and i personally wouldnt have even minded seeing a second entropy duo.

    worst case scenario, the entropy deck still loses, and we have a whole bunch of chaos seeds. with 3 rainbows + vreely's immodeck, though, chaos seeds have a home where they can still be very powerful. even if the entropy deck does well, 1-2 cost random element filler cards are not things we have extra of, and we could use some.

    +4 earthquake
    +4 lava golem

    we are bound to have a deck completely fall apart. almost any deck we have now, though, could be converted into a fire/earth duo if it lost its current focus. earthquakes will be deadly throughout the war, and extra lava golems would round-out what would end up being a mono-fire with a splash of earth. deflags, fire shields, ragepots, dragons... any fire cards could be worked into it, and with earthquakes, it *always* has a chance. i think including these 8 cards would prop up a lost deck into a usable, unexpected, playable deck.

    EDIT: if we get to a stage where we *have* to use all our cards or almost all our cards, 4 purify and 4 holy light are going to be hard to work into a deck. of the two, i am more worried about purify, as holy lights would still have a little bit of value in a rainbow even against a non-death non-darkness opponent.

    Here’s a couple examples of ways I saw them being used:
      Replace 2 pillars and 2 phoenixes in Dragons with Holy Lights against Darkness.  They can obviously be used to take out adrenavamps or whatever, but also to heal dragons if opponent take LS to counter an expected phoenix deck, or to heal us in a pinch.Replace two freezes with purifies in Immophoenix against Death.  If we’re up against poison, they help immensely.  If not, they hurt us a little.
    Here’s (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,9777.msg125169#msg125169) some evidence that opportunistic cards are not terrible to have on hand.  But if you all think our decks are better without such replacements, I’ll happily find other filler.  Other’s opinions are appreciated.

    I disagree.  Deflag and ragepot are our two best tweak cards if we need to add PC or CC to a deck against a specific opponent.  They’re also good replacement cards if we lose with Novagrabby, and they appear in a couple other decks.

    If the entropy duo loses first round, we’ll discard pends and refill them from our vault.  If it loses second round we’ll discard 11 pends and a ragepot and refill them from our vault.  Taking pends and ragepots are both better options than chaos seed cuz they can plug discard holes in a large number of our decks.

    I’ll comment here because jmdt gave the same feedback.  Has anyone else tested EQ golems?  I spent a good amount of time with it and didn’t love the results.  If we’re going to take up precious vault space with a fallback deck rather than opportunist, tweak, or plug cards, we need to make sure we really have faith in it.


    I really appreciate the feedback; there’s a lot of good discussion in there.  Vault deadline is less than 24 hours away.  More feedback from everybody, especially on the first point above, is appreciated.

    As I think about it more nobody’s going to tweak extra dragons and pillars/pends are better replacement cards.  Why don’t we do -6 dragons, +3 fire pillar, +3 fire pend.  I’m not worried about being short on pillars/pends after Round 1.  But after Round 3…

    I also wanted to point out that with the current vault otk is a viable deck option during the first few rounds if fractal phoenix isn’t being used.[/list]

    The only cards I cannot see a home for are the 4 Wings. With their quanta cost, they require a serious commitment towards Air, and I don't see the niche they fill that dimshields cannot.

    About Holy Light and Purify- I say include them. I checked the war#1 fire section way before the this whole issue came up, and I saw (and agreed) how important they are. Purify may be a bit too narrow, but it can literally mean the difference between a win and loss.

    We can convert any card to a fire pillar at any time.  Packing fire pillars is completely pointless.  If we needto pack extra quanta generators, pack fire pendulums as we can make them into pillars, but not necessicarily the other way around.

    The extra 6 dragons essentially give us an extra deck once we start losing primary decks later.  We take those 6 dragons, add some pillars and filler cards, and we essentialy have the backbone of a 14th deck if we need it.  Taking extra Fire attackers could prove most valuable down the road if we salvage a ton of extra cards and can make more decks.

    If you mean we cannot convert cards into pends, you're mistaken.  If you mean that pends serve as pillars in fire-mark decks, you're right.

    As I was posting that nobody would tweak-add a dragon, Acs did so in Deck Ideas.  lol.  And as I noted above the current vault gives us the ability to use otk if we want, which should be tweaked to include 3 dragons.  So I'm fine with your suggestion; we'll keep the six dragons.

    To be honest, though, I don't think a vault of 6 sparks and 51 pillars/pends would be tragically bad.  The way I see it, by taking so few pillars/pends we’re putting ourselves at risk if we suffer significant losses in the first couple rounds.  Suppose tragedy befalls us and we go 5-4 in round 1.  Our current vault is effectively 8 pillars, and we salvage and convert 12 after round 1.  We plug 20 of our 24 lost cards with pillars, but :-[ we have to eat into 4 ragepots and now we have 0 excess pillars in vault.  If we go 5-4 in round 2 (48 discards) we can only plug one deck’s lost pillars and the other three go under the knife.  Now maybe we get lucky and salvage fire pillars, or we are able to split up one of the three decks and fill holes in the other two.  Nobody knows.

    If we had 51 spare pillars in the vault from the get-go plus 24 converted cards we could cover all losses and have all 13 decks intact through Round 2.

    The obvious counterargument is that we’re likely to have more wins with excess cards that allow us to tweak in an extra ragepot, four Holy Lights, etc.  But it’s a slippery slope.

    Keep talking peeps.  We’re moving somewhere and I don’t know where yet.
