This should already be obvious to 90% of the players, but I would like to note that collaborating with other players is not allowed.

This rule especially applies to players outside the event. If you wanted to make decks for my event, you had ample time to join.

I'm already out of the event, so this is an unbiased perspective.
Why?

Collaboration in deckbuilding is obviously unfair to the players who are selecting/building decks on their own, which is what the event intended. There is a time and place for team events, and this is not it. The better question is why players aren't sensible enough to make this rule unnecessary.

I can understand if players are going to other players and asking for decks to use, that isn't ok.
But building a deck and going to someone else asking to playtest it with them...What is the problem here?

I suppose I'm asking what your definition of "collaborating" is.  Does that include having sparring matches to test out different decks?  Is it building decks with other people?  Is it building a deck and getting feedback?

Playtesting is fine, as long as the playtester knows that they are not allowed to give deckbuilding advice. Building decks with other people and getting feedback from other people is clearly wrong here, because it gives players an unfair advantage.

(Also the "ample time to join" means nothing because all slots filled up)

You're being nonsensical. Players had six days to sign up before the slots were all filled up. Even then, elk and Odii were able to get in, the latter of whom signed up an additional three days after the slots filled. Is nine days not sufficient? What do you recommend, Tim, that I start the sign-ups thread for my next even tonight, months in advance? There's no pleasing you people.

There's been a little misunderstanding about the implications of what I'm trying to say here, so I figured another post was warranted.

Copying decks from the forum is perfectly permissible, for a multitude of reasons. It's a rule that's impossible to enforce, the resource is available to everyone, and the rules of the event were designed so that original deckbuilding was a better strategy for strong players.

What I'm referring to, when I mention collaborating, is using help from others for this specific event. In other words, players who ask stronger players for advice regarding which decks to use against a specific opponent. The reason this is relevant is because Devil's Gate was designed so that it's not enough to simply have an overall decent deck, your decks need to be built with each round's opponent in mind, in order for them to be strong enough to win the event. Players who copy decks from the forum are of no concern to me; the problem is when players use help from others for the purposes of building decks for this event in particular.

I'm sorry for having to use so many posts to clarify the rules, but I didn't expect this problem to even arise in this event, much less for me to have such difficulty articulating it.
