Thread Primary Goal: Fully Define All of What Air is and is not.
Thread Secondary Goal: Define Air so new mechanics can be derived

General Views:
  • Air: The element of the skies and freedom. Air Elementals have plenty of dreams and aspirations and at times it can be a weakness. Not known as being down-to-earth in any sense of the phrase, Air Elementals shoot to the skies and aim to win.
  • Sound: A mastery of the vibrations in Air is but one of its clever strengths. Manipulating sound to whatever Air's need may be, Shockwave clearly demonstrates a glimpse of what Air's domain is.
  • Flight: What would an Air Elemental be without the dominion of the skies? Their abilities to sprout Wings taking to the skies and to Dive down united in Blitz proudly demonstrate just a few tricks Air Elementals have up their sleeves.
  • Atmosphere: Air is also known for being related to the outdoor atmosphere, where Life may inhabit and experience Air's will. Manipulating Fogs to its will, Air cleverly eludes and evades.
  • Gases: Air being an element of gaseous compounds, its Elementals waste no time in using gases in their favour. One of their best known concoction, the Unstable Gas is just one way Air Elementals show their mastery of these versatile compounds.
Some things to know:
  • Seen as one of the fundamental elements in Babylonian, Greek, Hindu, Buddhist, Japanese, Tibetan, and Medieval culture
  • Not seen as an element by the traditional Chinese culture, however, their concept of Qi, is frequently translated as "energy flow", or literally as "air" or "breath" and is believed to be part of every living thing that exists, as a kind of "life force" or "spiritual energy".
  • People born under the astrological signs of Libra, Gemini and Aquarius are thought to have dominant air personalities. Air personalities tend to be kind, intellectual, communicative, social, and helpful. However, they can also be cold, superficial, vicious, and very insensitive to other people's emotions.
  • Air has been related many gods and goddesses, including but not limited to, Aradia, Athena, Hermes, Mercury, Nuit, Shu, Thoth, Uranus and Zeus.

  • Quiver? Different gases? Another mechanic linking to Dive?

We need more weather-themed cards in Air... right now all we have is Thunderstorm, and Lightning belongs to the closely-related realm of the immaterial, Aether.

most ppl think air as flight and gases
however, all elements have 4 forms, gas, solid, liquid, and plasma
we can work on some of the other forms of common gases
liquid nitrogen for example

I like this breakdown, had no idea there were topics like these (going to look at the others later). Just a quick question, wouldn't invisibility be more closely related to Aether? I know theirs is immaterial which is different, but Aether's mentality seems to be about prevention of actions.

EDIT: Actually it could go into Darkness too, just remembered Cloak.

Air has many cheap knock-offs of super-expensive cards that can usually be used just as well as the original--if not better.

See thunderstorm (rain of fire), shockwave (lightning), fog shield (dusk mantle), wings (phase shield), damselfly (brimstone eater)

This is thematically linked to air being extremely light (as opposed to heavy), making them versatile and quick.

Air and Earth are two opposing elements, and as such, should oppose each other.

Whereas Earth is protection, tanking your damage and killing you anyway, air is evasion, avoiding your damage and defeating you that way.  Evasion through fog shield, through wings, and airborne creatures can already fly over iridium warden, but I think a buff to the airborne passive would give air more of a place.

Airborne creatures cannot be targeted by single target spells.
Firefly queen loses airborne.

There, air has it's theme of evasion, of flying over the enemies control, and sailing free and clear to victory.
