analogon to MGT cards and gamemechanix https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=39250.msg487996#msg487996
« on: April 26, 2012, 09:51:09 pm »
hey,

i did not read all threads in the idea forum, but i brainstormed smth....
i just think about some cards and effects of the well known trading card game: magic the gathering

here are some ideas:

- may one could add cards with costs of healthpoints and (or instead of) quantum
- what about letting the opponent discard a handcard at random
- what about of special pillars with clickable abilities, like mischra's factory: http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=218340
- the only opportunity vs out decking is abuse of eternity, why dont invent smth like a graveyard concept and get a card like feldon's cane  http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=109694
- what about multicolour cards like this: Angelic Shield http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=284487
- mgt makes a difference between invulnerability and beeing not targetable
- or never give up permanents like this one: http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=220577

Ripping themes right off is pretty morally reprehensible. Ew.

As for your suggestions:
- Shard of Sacrifice costs HP.
- Forced, direct discards can't be balanced until there's an opposite side of the coin, like a graveyard for discarded cards and ways to get them back. Changing mechanics like that isn't needed yet because we can still do a lot with our current ones and remain unique rather than copy someone else. Having your own identity is very important, both for the community and portfolio.
- Perm-like pillars are something I do like, and there are quite a few similar card ideas like that circulating.
- Multicolour seems unnecessary for now, just like graveyard. The current system of abilities costing a different quanta allows for easier splashing.
- Targeting: This is not MTG and I'd keep it this way. Part of becoming skilled at a game is doing your own research and finding out how things work.
- Site isn't working, so I can't see what you mean by never-give-up-perms, but if it's the kind that doesn't let you lose until they're destroyed: no. Permanent control is too rare in this game, and permanents/creatures like that have always seemed to abusable to me. Not necessarily overpowered, just flattening the meta.

ya, agree...

sry i just did not read all the posts and ideas
- Site isn't working, so I can't see what you mean by never-give-up-perms...

its a creature entchantment, if the creature dies, the entchantment would go to graveyard also, in the case of rancor, it goes to hand of the owner instead.

HP costs have been considered. SoSac uses them already. However they are a worthy mechanic to use when appropriate.

Forced discard effects were disliked when Zanzarino (the sole developer) tried to add one. I think in time the community will warm up to the idea. It is easy to balance provided it is a random discard.

Search for Obelisks and look here: http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,37357.0.html.

Anti deckout:
Eternity, Shard of Bravery, Larger decks, Many cards suggested in the forum like http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,35710.0.html.

There will never be a graveyard. Zanzarino decided to exclude the graveyard because it is done too much.

Gold cards cannot exist using the current quanta system. Hybrid cards have been suggested (though the suggestions tend to be low quality)

EtG does not have an Indestructible mechanic yet. Immaterial/Immortal = Shroud. Honestly there is no need for the indestructible mechanic if there are no Doom Blades (destroy target creature).

http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,35710.0.html is an interesting creature that can make cards return to the hand rather than die.

Welcome to the CIA.

I wouldn't say immaterial == shroud. They're similar, but with immaterial you can't  target your own creatures.

The same is true for Shroud.

Hexproof (aka Trollshroud) is the version where you can still target.

in MGT logic: this should mean that rain of fire hurt an immortal creature, cuz rain of fire dont target a special creature
in ETG logic: not targetable = immortal, rain of fire doesnt hurt this creature
