That seems like it would be a bit overpowered.

However I would love to see users use it in a deck with SoFree, and then fail to realize that they can't target their own air creatures. >.<

I do not see how OP it is because the cost needed is very, very high. SoFre users can target their own :air creatures without fear of dodge.

really? I could've sworn that I'd seen.. or at least heard of someone complaining their buff was dodged because of a SoFree... :o

It took a year for this card to start from as a rather-bland passive effect and become the flavorful card that now sits in the Armory. Here's to the Community's Efforts.

Thanks everyone who has supported Fenghuang. If I could get your support one last time, I'd love to see this card in the game to show how much we've built upon ETG.

1) 'Fenghuang' is merely Mandarin for 'Phoenix', and we already have a Phoenix. It is also not an English word (not even as a loan word), and that is problematic in an English game.

2) To what concept does 'Ren' refer?

3) The name for the ability ('bounce') is not thematically connected to the card in any way (unless it is connected to 'Ren', the meaning of which I do not yet know).

Also, is there a particular reason why it is  :air?

The name for the creature (Fenghuang) and the ability (Ren) was added afterwards. Do you have better names?

The theme of the card is providing a soft protection to creatures that is related to movement. (aka bouncing the creature instead of it dying) I think this explains why it is Air.

I would call the active ability "Ren".
Ren is the virtue of benevolence, charity, and humanity.

I'd also like an alternative name for "bounce", but nothing is coming to my mind right now.

For mechanical balance, Ren should be kept an :air ability to allow it to be used in mono :air decks IMHO.
Ren (or Rén) (Chinese: 仁; pinyin: rén; Wade–Giles: jen) is the Confucian virtue denoting the good feeling a virtuous human experiences when being altruistic. 仁 is exemplified by a normal adult's protective feelings for children. It is considered the inward expression of Confucian ideals.

I think we could call the 'Bounce' ability 'Evasion' instead.
In hindsight 'Ren' is very :light - sounding. I think we need a clearer explanation why this name fits :air . If not the ability needs to be given a more appropriate name.

Yeah, it was a bit of a thoughtless remark that I typed too quickly.  My apologies.

I could probably think of a bunch of better reasons without saying it needs to be mono. such as:
*SoFree defines Air as the evasive element - effect has difficulty fitting into other elements as a result (yes, protecting creatures is :light / :aether in nature, but Light and Aether deal with guaranteed protection as opposed to evasion.)
*Fenghuang could be using whirlwinds to displace creatures
*Impact of a spell creatures a shockwave that pushes the creature back instead of killing it
*Air has great creature offense but lacked in creature defense until SoFree came along
*Less elements involved = less quanta to splash in a UG deck with creatures
*This + Dragonfly + OE becomes an anti-deckout method - most elements won't be able to replicate this combo with their 'quanta creature' (RoL comes closest but only works upped.)
*etc...

The original (and current) theme of the bounce passive skill is that the creature is able to retreat before dying. This improved maneuverability is granted to the creature using  :air because Air is the element most associated with maneuverability.
