X= initial number of creatures.
Cost -> Damage

In rainbow
4 :life -> 2X|3X
8 :life -> 5X|7X
12 :life -> 9X|12X

In mono
4 :life -> X+1|X+2
8 :life -> 2X+3|2X+5
12 :life -> 3X+6|3X+9

Mono gets the option of Mitosis so it can pay the casting cost for either Coalescence or Common Ancestor.
Mono usage is weaker than Rainbow usage.
The +1|+1 upgrade helps Rainbow much more than Mono.
The Mono usage is fairly close to balanced if not already.

Conclusion: It would be better if the upgrade was a cost decrease (Which helps mono and rainbow) and if Coalescence cost more than Common Ancestor (So the mono usage could use the cheaper cost for the weaker effect). I might even suggest base stats of 0|0 since they get a minimum of +1|+1 when played via  Coalescence.

With the stat based changes but without the cost based changes
X= initial number of creatures.
Cost -> Damage

In rainbow
4 :life -> X
8 :life -> 3X
12 :life -> 6X

In mono
4 :life -> X

Correct on all accounts. If Coalescence were played and no creatures were on the field then it would not be generating any Common Ancestors anyways.

yeah I know, but even with a plain old monolife it's good, which is why it seems a little too powerful to me maybe. all depends if you start off with a 1|1 token thing immediately

If you had 1 and only 1 life creature (say a frog) then it would create a 1|1 CA.

Yes it is good in mono life. It is almost (multiples scale slower) as good in mono life as it is in rainbow. It is almost (twice the creatures, half as big, duo rather than mono) as good in a life duo as it is in a life mono.

Simply adjusting the casting cost would be sufficient to adjust the balance. Why do you think it is too powerful?
