I think I'm getting what you are saying, but, not 100% sure I follow.  You are objecting to a creature having a continuous effect?

I guess that could be turned into an activated ability instead, "Target Creature loses all abilities and gains, "0: Until end of turn all creatures matching your mark gain +1/+1."

At least that way a mind flayer could neutralize it.

Not 100% sure I was following you though.  I didn't get the mitosis part, how that related.  (I do understand that you get the base creature from mitosis, just not sure how that relates).

I thought you were suggesting an effect that removed all previous stat buffs and replaced them with +1|+1

@Odin
jazzfan27 was stating that it is easier to deal with (remove) an effect if it is on a creature than if it is on a permanent. This is a result of CC being more common than PC. jazzfan27 thinks that the primary reason people fear a stacking "this element gets +1|+1" is the difficulty with removing permanents.

@jazzfan
With 2 exceptions I think you are right about the source of the fear
1) Increasing hp from 0 to 1. Stacking is not an issue here for increasing hp from 0 to 2 is not twice as beneficial as increasing it from 0 to 1.
2) Increasing attack from 0 to 1 in element for creatures balanced on the premise of no in element attack buffs.
