I have a few questions, too.

The rules state that you need "a 100 word description to explain the reasoning behind the deck," but does that mean over, under, or just around 100 words? Also, is this just an explanation of how the deck's supposed to work, so you can post a cool backstory to the deck (similar to what Essence did) of any length, or is it the other way around? Can you make either of these longer in your entry's FG Proposal thread?

I just want to make sure that I get my entry in the right format for this competition, especially since I'm new to the forums.

It has to be a 100 word minimum. You can go over. And you have to explain the reasoning behind the deck, as in why it fits into the FG theme and possibly how it works.

Succubus (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,19785.0.html)

It is forbidden to love the Succubus.

She'll lull you in with her beauty, promise you immortality, promise you things you cannot believe.  Her looks will stun you, and you'll find yourself showering her with compliments, with gifts.  You'll stammer, professing your love for her, unable to think for yourself.  Your world will be upside down, backwards, and the only thing you'll know is that you will do anything in your power to earn her favor.  She'll sit back and let you do it.

It is forbidden to love the Succubus.

Your love for her will only make her stronger, and suddenly things will take a turn for the worse.  She'll show her dark side, and start leeching the life out of you.  Slowly at first, then quicker.  All your attempts to woo her will only make her more ferocious.  Your attempts at survival will prove futile.  And, if in anger you strike her, you'll hit nothing.

Because she was never there.

It is forbidden to love the Succubus.

Because there is no love there.  Only pain.  A long, unending pain.  Because there is no love there.  Only death.  A slow, quiet, death.

Your submission is correct and will be accepted in its current form.

As for the description, it should be placed in your submission similar to what you've done.
Else known as "JonTheBon"

Everyone please use this template:

Code: [Select]
INSERT DECK NAME HERE
[deck mark=MARK author=PUTYOURNAMEHERE]***[/deck]
INSERT DESCRIPTION HERE
And not something like that, exactly like that.

This new rule was introduced because many members used tricks like larger font to make their submission stand out more. With identical templates, it's the deck and words that determine the winner, not some eye candy.

So, what, there's no space for a story at all?  It's just the cards and the mechanical description?

That's just sad.

This is not a writing competition.

And nobody said that the description has to be "mechanical description".

Kamietsu seems to disagree.

And as to the 'writing competition', you're not going to get anywhere with themes like "forbidden romance" if you don't have a story.  There's not enough flavor on the cards themselves to lend themselves to an abstract concept like 'romance' if you don't write a backstory to explain why they do.  So literally, according to the simple facts of this contest, you're wrong.  This contest cannot be about anything OTHER than your writing ability so long as the goal is to make a bunch of flavor-free mechanics fit into a non-mechanical abstract theme like 'romance'.

At the very minimum, the format needs to be changed to allow the description to come before the decklist.  That way, the readers get the explanation before they see the deck, making them much less likely to make a snap judgement based on the cards without having any understanding of why those cards were chosen.

As SG said, this is not a story competition. This is a deck building competition. You are free to do whatever you want with your FG proposal post in the fG proposal area. But here, you have to stick to those constrains. And I don't disagree with SG. You do not have to have a mechanical description of your deck. You just need to explain why it fits into the theme. And if you think you need an elaborate story for people to understand, then you are either underestimating your own abilities or the minds of everyone else. Almost everyone else here has perfectly good explanations of their deck.

And the format will stay because it's not about the description, it's about the deck. The deck should be seen first and then the explanation given as to why it fits. To me, it makes more sense that way.
